You are talking San Antonio....not the State of Texas back in 1993...25 years ago.

If the fight had been in or Dallas or Amarillo, Whitaker's victory chance would have been greatly increased, per your theory.

He was robbed. He took the fight and the money. Chavez never showed any interest in a rematch.

Whitaker was confident ,and with good reason. I think he'd have taken the fight in Chavez s front room given the chance. But Chavez had the big Don covering his back ,so he got shafted by the judges.

The worst part is the sort of man Chavez became at 140 and up .. Tyson went to jail and he became KIng's key bread winner and ate up the bs .. he not only didn't give Whitaker a rematch but he was arrogant about it .. they absolutely stole the title back from Frankie Randall and Chavez took it like a thief and never pushed for an immediate rubber match .. two disgraces from the same sated of a career on a fighter that for the first half of his career was an all time great in and out of the ring ..

A great fighter has the confidence / arrogance and feel they can win anywhere. He should be applauded in my opinion to take that fight in that state, under those circumstances. Most of us real fight fans who actually were around to watch the fight know he won. Though the judges courtesy of D.King said otherwise.

Pretty much classic examples of why I never liked Chavez that much.
