Granted, Golovkin's much older and his veil of invincibility isn't close to to what Tyson's was since he battled ultra roided cruiserweights in Jacobs and Clenelo...

Also, keep in mind that Tyson's chin hadn't really been tested. But we've seen Golovkin eat roided slabs of concrete from Clenelo and not flinch.

    Thoughts?

Note: don't compare the official odds; instead, use your extremely limited knowledge of the sport of boxing.

No i dont think so, people have seen GGG fade a little, Mike Tyson was known as a Killer around the World. He really was the scariest man on the planet earth in the prime of his life, for him to lose any time soon was unthinkable, there was nobody out there that could beat such a monster.

GGG has people out there who you could say are very bad matchups for him as hes faded, a GGG loss wouldnt shock the World in my opinion.

Douglas was active and in pretty good form going into this fight. And those who had followed him knew he had some tools (all-universe quality jab, quick hands and good movement) that could give Tyson some problems.

I'd actually consider a Vanes victory of any sort to be an even greater upset.

Odds wise, no. No it would not be a bigger upset.

Just checked, Vanes is +1600 to stop GGG. I believe Douglas was 40 something to one just to win.

Not even close, unless you only started following boxing a few years ago and don't know aura of invisibility surrounding Tyson at the time. Tyson was considered the baddest man on the planet by a landslide, Nobody had ever come close to having such the aura of an absolute savage disgusting filthy vile animal.

I don't think people would be as shocked if Vanes stopped G! Vanes has decent skills on par with Douglas's. G is older and hasn't destroyed an opponent in a long time. Tyson was on some next level sh!t when Douglas stopped him. No way is G getting stopped a bigger upset. Except for the diehard G fans, which of course is understandable.

When Tyson lost to Douglas the sense of shock was greater than almost any sporting upset, before or since. I've got a newspaper front page from that time which featured the headline 'Down and Out' written above that iconic picture of Tyson on the canvas scrambling around for his gumshield and one of Nelson Mandela on his release from captivity. That shows how shocking his loss was, it was massive news.

But years later you find out about Greg Page and the loss doesn't seem as unbelievable when judged by history.

That said, GGG losing wouldn't even make the back page headline...
