You’d kind of expect this from a unified MW champ with an impressive power & skillset who’s taking on a smaller, non-elite, inactive fighter.

Not bashing Golovkin or Vanes, but this fight was just a confirmation of facts everyone knew already. Golovkins stock remains on the same level it was before the fight, it could’ve only gone down if the fight unfolded in a different way.

 

He is a JMW, yes.

It’s not about that, mate. It’s about not making this fight as some kind of boost to Golovkins resume. He is great, no doubt about it, which is why he despatched Vanes exactly the way he should’ve. No surprises there, move on to the real challenges.

 

Seriously, I refuse to play this game, you’re clearly trying to spin this in a way to make Vanes look like a legitimate threat. He isn’t one.

There’s nothing Golovkin could’ve done last night to make himself greater, which is what you seem to be getting at, he only had things to lose.
Maybe scoring a KO with a jab lol, pulling a WK and only boxing with the left until the KO came around. And even that would’ve just pointed out the obvious - no one from under 160 can match G provided he isn’t totally past it and he isn’t.

 

Again, it’s not about good/bad wins.
Golovkin performed the way he should’ve, taking on an opponent who only served as a stay active, but otherwise meaningless, fight. End of it.

I’d expect Genady to take care of Charlo and Lara too, not because they’re ****, because Golovkin is that good and his challenges, Saunders aside, are north of his own division.
Even Saunders is a challenge purely based of Genady’s age.

 

Well we all kind of expected Golovkin to win. We all expected him to KO Vanes, even though Vanes has never been KO'd. GGG delivered in full, and that KO was as emphatic as they come. Pin-point, heavy handed combination punching, top shelf.

Vanes didn't look bad, either. He'd been in training for another bout 2 weeks prior, and he looked sharp and focused in the first round. I'd even say he may have edged it. I'm glad that this bout went through, and it ought to put a bit of brakes on the guys that think Charlo, Andrade and Lara have any sort of edge over GGG.
