Anyone who got "conned" deserves to be conned. Haye record of failing to deliver what he says is quite lengthy. That's not to say he hasn't ever delivered, because sometimes he has. I don't think he's conned anyone since 2011 at the latest. He's just carried on doing the same. People who know even a little about boxing know he's never really been capable of delivering much as a top-flight heavyweight. That became clear a long time ago, even when he was "prime". If he comes back again, I believe most of those people who bought last night's fight will still be tempted to buy into him again. That's fair enough. They can't pretend they are getting conned. They are just being loyal to their fighter and enjoy being part of the fantasy.
Haye was absolutely dreadful, slow, ponderous, reflexes were poor, truly finished now. A shell of his former self and it was sad to see. He can be proud of his career imo, unified cruiserweight champ and won a version of the heavyweight title, made millions and has cross over appeal. Tony has some way to go to get near that credentials despite winning handily last night. Tony himself has always fought for vacant titles.... Commonwealth, British, WBC international silver, WBO international, EBU, WBC world.... can't think he's actually beaten any defending champions, quite amazing really!
I doubt Haye will fight again in his comeback when he fought those 2 bouncers the die hard fans were perhaps gullible to think that he could get in a title match with Joshua , then came the reality check against Bellew ! First one perhaps a fluke ? Last night proof that he is shot . Haye’s glory years were based on explosiveness and jerky timing , those attributes diminishes quickly with age . He never developed a base of fundamentals and Bellew was able to exploit those weaknesses.
There was no fluke about either Bellew win - Haye suffered a career ending shoulder injury in 2013 and a career ending achilles tendon injury in 2016 which became evident in the Bellew v Haye First PPV Money Title Fight. Why do you think he took so long on his ring entrance in both fights - he could barely walk. Why do you think he wore a giant nappy last night - to deflect the eyes away from his leg. Haye was finished in 2013 that is why he pulled the Fury fight - he knew it, Fury knew it, his trainer knew it and it is amazing that people on here did not know it.
Haye was a great fighter. Was never the best boxer but that power with the speed/athletism decent tactics good reflexes etc put him up there with anyone. He was a great cruiserweight and a good heavyweight. But its over now. Injuries have finished him off. There's no path left to go for him now. You can't compete with the injuries hes had/got. I m all for the old guys continuing albeit at as low a level they need to go....before picking an opportunity. But it can't be done at that age with injuries. They training camps are a joke. Left bicep injured recently. Achilles totally knackered recently. Right shoulder goosed. That's just what we know about as well. The left bicep, Achilles we,re in recovery during this training camp. The surgeon said the right shoulders a career finisher years ago. Pretty certain very little serious boxing's getting done at they training camps. Looking at it its pretty much impossible to do any serious boxing training with them injuries. He's had his pay day and in his defence...he's gave it his all. Nothing wrong with his heart. But worrying hes not called it a day straight after it. The gig is well and truly up. Always makes you wonder if some outside influence is forcing him to fight on. They take your money...put you in position of massive debts and keep you fighting till theres no money left on the table. Because that's the only explanation of trying to fight on after last night. He can't have enjoyed that. Wheres his eight/ten million he probably banked for the two fights going.
Haye is a genius for getting himself two whopper paydays after all those injuries and inactivity. As someone else said, he'll be a great promoter because people really buy into his rubbish. However, I do respect the heart he showed in both fights. I wonder what his financial situation is. Clearly came back in some desperation. I do think he'll retire no matter what. Probably didn't want to give Tony that satisfaction last night. He'll go quiet and announce it in a few months I'd say.
People go on about haye conning the public...but the reality is...theres always a call for a big punching heavyweight who was usually always entertaining to boot. When he did get to the boxing ring he pretty much always delivered. I always thought they as in booth and haye tried to be too smart for their own good against valuev and klitchko. It became these big masterplans when the reality was David just needed to train hard...go out and land big on either one of them. Outside of that tho you,ll be hard pushed to find a time he never delivered an entertaining fight or finish...before the lay off. Even if he didn't talk himself up...people would still have bought his fights with bellew off the back of it. There's a message in their for some of the younger guys coming through...you don't just have to win...but you do have to try to have an entertaining style. Haye had that. And in his defence he went out on his shield both times against bellew. The truth is if you,ve entertained more than most...you will get more paydays because of it regardless of your condition/age. People still love a comeback. Its not something exclusive just to David Haye.
He certainly delivered serious turd at heavyweight against Valuev, Fraudley, Klit, Bellew 1 and Bellew 2. Going into 2 fights stating that he was 100% fit when only 5% fit is conning the PPV mugs.
He has stated on every possible occasion that he was 100% fit and injury free and had been sparring up to 48 hours before the fight so his timing was spot on. Poor punters would have been backing him based on this false information. That amounts to fraud and he should refund any punters who have backed him based on false information he has put out to the public. Does this man have no shame?
Forgot about the betting side - many people seriously duped by this conman. Would not be surprised if Toe's cronies cleaned up on the betting knowing that he had no chance.
