Yes The boxing glove may be heavier but the huge diff is the way the hands are wrapped. The mma glove doesn’t allow enough room. Also, mma fighters don’t spend as much time punching or learning the skill and tech that goes along with boxing. There are few guys in mma that actually have an understanding of how to punch and implement boxing in mma.

It really depends on how you define the phrase “punch harder”… In terms of more FORCE OUTPUT CAPACITY, I would say boxers are about equal or 10% better than MMA fighters. ... If you're comparing punches on a heavy bag, boxers and MMA will be about the same with a small but clear edge for boxers.

It depends. Boxers tend to have way better punching technique but that doesn't always translate into hitting hard. Mark Hunt hits as hard as just about any HW pro boxer, but top pros have a better delivery system and thus a better chance of scoring a KO.
Yes. The Mayweather/McGregor fight have put this debate to bed. McGregor is considered a big puncher in MMA yet it was clear in the Mayweather fight that by boxing standards he doesn't even hit as hard as someone like Paulie Malignaggi.

Due to the rule set, boxers can position their bodies to maximize the output of a punch, since they really dont need to worry about a takedown or any other non punching technique. In MMA you really cant set up a punch or position yourself the way you would in a boxing match as you could get attacked through other means.
No, you don’t wrap your hands like you would for a fight in sparring. 8-10oz pro fight much more damage then sparring.
I agree but 16-20 oz gloves are a larger surface area can be more concussive in it's own right. So they say it's more unnatural, the less padding is better. It's all about protecting the hands I get it but brain is more important
You don’t want to get hit at all in a pro fight. It’s like playing football without a helmet and getting hit with a baseball bat vs regular
Boxers hi t harder end of story . And it's not even close. BUT the reason is also because MMA fighters can't really commit to just punching. They have to worry about Elbows,kicks,take downs,submissions,etc. So MMA fighters can't fully concentrate on just punching which a boxer can .
Good replies all round. I'd be willing to bet that a guy like Dan Henderson hits as hard as (or harder) than any similar sized boxer, though. Some dudes are born with Hulk genes and that's that.
