The 2 year layoff is too much
    Especially against a P4P elite
    Moving up in weight too
    It’s like a Brook win

Vanes had some nice shots but honestly thought he would box better. A 154 pounder tried to square up with GGG lmao

They both were over 170 pounds in the ring. Jr Middle is just 6 more pounds of dehydration from 160 pounds. Boxing has too many weight classes.

Brook win is better but both mean absolutely nothing legacy wise.

The actual thing in common between the two is that both were short notice replacement fights, both were offered same deals others had turned down and they stepped up to a challenge.

I’m just saying, although they weighed the same, Vanes isn’t a natural 160 and he tried to go toe to toe with the hardest puncher in the division. He was doomed.

I thought he was just hyping the fight up by saying that he’ll take the fight to Golovkin and trade in the middle of the ring mexican style.

    Crazy mother****er was serious.

Vanes has nice crisp shots and a hell of a chin. Golovkin hit him with som monster shots and he was still firing back. It was the entire series of blows that did the job. I've seen GGG one-shot drop guys with lesser punches than those.

Golovkin deserves credit for getting rid of a good (normally
very durable), solid top ten 154 pounder in a manner that
he's never been dispatched prior. We all knew he'd beat
Vanes who's been inactive and does just enough to lose close
fights vs. top guys but he ran him over quickly. I'm fine with that.

Golovkin goes back to looking something like the monster of two years ago and now he's overrated again... When he destroys people, his opponents are no good. When he outpoints Canelo and Jacobs, he gets called out for not destroying them.

He deserves as much credit as Garcia did for blowing away Rod Salka - none!

There's no need to put lipstick on a hog. The fight wasn't necessary.

    Ehh not Salka
It’s the inactivity and ring rust that made this poor fight

Worse than a Brook win. At least Brook was active, and had a full training camp. Vanes on the other hand....

And the fact that Vanes wasn't even a puncher at 154.. Swifty vs Salka was more competitive.

I think people are looking way into this fight

This was a short notice fight to save the date get paid and stay active. They were never going to get someone dangerous on short notice and they had been preparing for Canelo and also with all the testing and legal talk floating around it must have been a huge distraction also with the frequent changing of opponent options and mandatory pressure

Golovkin knocked out Vanes and easily though he got nailed by a left and it definitely got his attention

This fight basically tells us nothing and I think people are trying to draw away too much from it

As a Golovkin fan and someone who has watched his fights consistently over the years he didnt attack the body at all even vs an over matched guy. I guess you could argue he didnt need to but even vs Macklin and Geale and Proksa when he had those guys completely declawed and in retreat he hit them to the body which set up the head punches. He didnt really go to the body at all last night and he didnt go to the body enough vs Canelo or even Jacobs. This right now is his biggest problem and can be a bigger problem vs Canelo in a rematch or vs Jacobs in a rematch or vs Saunders
