Probably the greatest ever short fight of three rounds or less, but overall I have it lower than a fair few others.
No. It was a great matchup/event and had an fun terrific short fight, but there has been a lot of fights that were great and lasted longer, and were more competitive. Hagler was beating Hearns pretty soundly after the 1st and having more issues with the blood than Tommy. For example, Corrales-Castillo 1 rounds 8-10 were better than the 3 rounds in Hagler-Hearns. And the first 7 rounds of that fight were really good too. As far as the 80s goes, Saad-Lopez 2 was a better fight.
First round was one of the best ever for sure, but after that Hearns was pretty well done. I never considered it one of the best fights ever. But to each his own
Like Jel said, greatest short fight ever, but Harns breaking his right hand in the first round keeps it from being TBE. MY favorite fight ever is probably Toney-jirov. A 12 round war, that had Emanual Steward losing his mind as it came to a close.
As farfar as greatest fight, growing oup and later (65 here), I was ALWAYS told the best w as s Zale/Graziano 1, followed closely by Graziano/Zale 2.
I did check myself slightly before I wrote that - because I was thinking of Dempsey-Firpo - but then I thought 'Nah, Hagler-Hearns was better'!
All fighters do as they go up in weight, But for me it's just a perfect fight. The old veteran taking on a Kazakh terminator. Non-stop action, Jirov's insane output, Toney's insane accuracy and defense. Corner drama, and an amazing ending. Jirov provided a perfect canvas for James' art.
It's getting to the point where it's actually one of the only fights you ever hear about as if it in itself redefined greatness or something. The list either begins with Ward/Gatti or Hagler/Hearns and only becomes more predictable from then on out.
