apart from poor balance, slow feet, slow hands, all the weight on the front leg, resulting in **** attacks and no ability to defend in the pocket, the biggest glaring injury is still his shoulder. I never ever seen Haye throw those wide ass slow hooks, his straight right was no where to be seen.
I think if he trained properly he wouldn't of made it to the fight. It looked like his right ankle was fused and he was struggling to throw too like a shoulder problem. He was in worse nick than the first fight going in I thought
Haye is a straight puncher. His no hooker and the shoulder was the biggest issue as he can't throw straight right hands
Yes it was clear from the first bell. Zero power in his punches because of it. Malignaggi spotted it straight away
I don't know whether he was injured, or whether he was just afraid of suffering a repeat injury. He just looked so awkward and off balance from the first bell, like he was trying to hide something or trying to prevent something from happening. Fair play to Tony, but I think David was absolutely shot, where he was only fighting for the cheque.
Here is my take: I don't think he looked injured in rounds 1 and 2. He caught Bellew a few times and seemed to be moving and throwing ok, won both rounds and didn't appear gassed. I think he was rusty and his timing was a little off and I guess aging impacts on reflexes and speed to some degree. Round three he made a big mistake. He jumped into range with great foot speed and threw a straight right which glanced off Bellew as he ducked and then (the big mistake) Haye followed up and missed with a left and then a right. You can't stay exposed in the pocket swinging and missing 3 times against an in form counter puncher. Had Haye jumped back after the first glancing right (or even the second) and reset himself, the fight may have unfolded differently. Instead Bellew used the ropes and countered the missing Haye who was stunned. Haye backed off into the corner and again tried to trade (when stunned) and this time was caught flush. Despite the previous fight Haye was convinced he would win a trade off with a younger and more in form fighter, he thought he could just keep swinging until he hit something. I think Haye's ego played a big part in that error. Haye was still on unsteady legs from the first knock down when he stepped awkwardly and something snapped in his leg. Either his Achilles or his knee went just before the second "knock down" and from then on he could not distribute his weight correctly or generate any power and so from that point the fight was effectively over. Perhaps it was an existing injury or perhaps something new. Either way the mistake was staying exposed in the pocket against an in form counter puncher when he didn't need to. Still credit to Bellew he beat what was in front of him...
I wasn't having any of this Saturday or Sunday, on a second viewing and taking in to account what Paulie noticed and said on commentary and what quite a few others have said on social media.. Haye did seem to put his weight on his front foot, he was intent on keeping any weight off the back leg, now Hayes natural style is counter but he couldn't do that effectively with his weight on his front foot. I don't know if he was injured, I didn't think he was watching live (I was drinking) but he may well have been. I personally don't trust Haye to tell the truth when it comes to his health, if he pulled out of the Bellew again then it would have been completely cancelled and his pension would have taken a hit so he might have taken the gamble again. It doesn't really matter, this may sound out of order but personally I'm glad Haye has lost and hopefully we don't have to see him again.
Pretty much how i saw MagicAlex..first two rounds he looked a bit nervy but his basic boxing fundamentals looked okay. On the second knock down, Hayes natural reaction was to move his hand straight to the achillies before moving it straight off it and standing up, he was also grimacing in pain. Obviously didn't want to make us feel his body had broken yet again. My guess would be his body may have seemed okay and healed as he had hoped, but once the pressure came onto him it's done what it's always done and shut down on him. I Also think his legs altogether have gone, Malnaggi mentioned as did Froch. Despite boxing 'okay' Hayes feet where just planted looking for that one shot. His obvious ego believing that's all it would need, hence probably exchanging when he shouldn't have done He limped out the arena in a poor condition, make of that what you will. I just hope he retires now before he's wheelchair bound.
The right leg injury probably explains why he was looking for left hooks all night long as it was the only punch he could generate any power into. Also explains along with the shoulder why apart from the odd occasion his best punch..the straight right was never untilised. When you weigh up everything he actually did well to last a few rounds with as severe a handicap as being unable to plant his right leg.
He is hoping to get a shot at Fury but Fury can only fight with his left hand, cause everyone need to get home to their kids ok..
I think it goes without saying that he’s got injuries here there and everywhere, achilies and shoulder being the most visible ones. Hence why he is considered shot. He did not belong in that ring with Bellew and, while I’m not taking anything away from Tony, it had nothing to do with him. So one could think Haye is a badass and very brave man to step into the ring knowing he shouldnt be there, but i think it’s just basic unprofesionalism, that same one that caused him troubles with his body etc., and greed (or maybe need) that we saw from him. No one should be allowed to fight like that. First rule - protect yourself at all times, right? He broke it stepping trough the ropes.
He may have looked OK for two rounds but that doesn't say much, when his body clearly couldn't last longer than that. So the theory he wasn't as badly injured as he seemed doesn't hold water for me. That shoulder injury for a start wrecked his honey punch, he'd been throwing it with intensity for years and the wear and tear just took its toll, that punch unfortunately for Haye, had a sell by date. Then all the other injuries on top of that rendering him a cripple after having a bit of pressure put on him. You cant tell me Haye was in good form until Tony knocked him down, all Tony did was expose the physical mess Haye was in, by putting the pressure on. Credit to him for making that clear but let's not make out Haye just found his boogie man and was in decent form for this fight. The man was limping to his corner. I guess you will get Bellew fans saying Haye was still a force in order to bolster the win but all the evidence points to Haye having zilch left, unfortunately for them. The Haye name has that prestige but seeing it without the hype shows a fighter that has all but avoided fighting since 2012 with storied career ending injuries. So yeah he was injured without a doubt, surely everyone can see that now especially.
