Myth: Boxing is the only sport where 30s era athletes handily beat modern fighters

The problem with TMP is we are no longer discussing actual fighters. Hypothetical fights across eras may not be 'fair' but surely we can only assess fighters as they are/were. Not that I don't like the idea of a 6'5, 2 eyed, 2 armed Joe Frazier all tuned up on that A side meth.

Do you tend to favour moderns vs pasts h2h if you don't apply TMP?

Yes, it all comes down to honesty, doesn't it?

Keep lying to yourself, makes no difference to the truth of the matter.

Infighting was wrestling and holding in the past. Thank god that isn’t as common anymore. Fighters judge range better than in the past, that’s why they don’t wrestle and throw the same punch continuously.
Yes more people can call themselves a champ these days but we know who really is and isn’t a serious champ.

Honesty and awareness. If you don’t have an awareness of all the different aspects of the sport then you might be honestly ignorant and inaccurate like you obviously are.

I'm sure Mack Robinson has a thing to say about the rest of the field not cutting.

Mack absolutely shattered the '36 Olympic record... The problem was that Jesse was a few tenths faster and that's all they remembered. This world was cruel to Mack though. Where Jesse would go on to be a legend, Mack was forgotten by the world and ended up pushing a broom as a cleaner on the streets of Pasadena. How ****ed up is that?

The lesson to be learned is get good at something useful. Being able to run really fast in an age of planes and automobiles is up there with being really amazing at beer pong.

    Owens ran on sand.
    Bolt runs on rubber.

Owens had it rougher without Nike, enhancement tools and etc.
Guys of the past were hardcore fighting 4 times a month, new fighters can barely fight 2x a year.
Men are weaker today than ever, especially without a gun in their midst.

That’s the best argument/excuse for why fighters were so such much worse in the past, because of how frequently they fought. They could never peak for a fight even if they had the knowledge to, they would always have injuries and they could never systematically wipe out technical flaws because they were always trying to win. They couldn’t watch their training sessions, they didn’t have a large network of information and input to provide feedback about their boxing game, or any other aspect of their physical training/nutrition/etc.
It’s really quite absurd how disadvantaged these guys were compared to today, what’s even more absurd is that people are dishonest or stupid enough to pretend that the boxers of past weren’t significantly worse than they are today. There are legitimate excuses for how poor these old timers were besides the natural evolution of sports, yet some still want to pretend they weren’t athletically terrible and terrible at boxing.

That doesn’t make any sense at all. First of all being able run really fast is largely something you’re born with, and it can be monetized. Secondly you do what you enjoy and are passionate about, not what someone else thinks is ‘useful’. Why would being a sprinter when you’re young interfere with any other career goals or interests? In what sense would a person be carrying passengers or be in a race with a plane/car? What you’re saying is analogous to saying what’s the point of being in a plane, the speed of light is way faster.
You really show your lack of character and intellect with posts like this.

Better times, on better surfaces with proper blocks. The modern tracks and blocks make them far faster, not the athletes being better

When Bolt broke the world record, if Owens was there, and put in his best, he would have come in second, and Owens was just some student working part time.

Older fighters noticeably had more skill but aren't the physical specimens today's fighters seem to be. I think back on the 30's a greater emphasis was placed on skill whereas today I think athleticism and physical profile might have the greater emphasis in modern sports especially combative ones.

Though the older ones had much better stamina. More emphasis on explosiveness, less on endurance.
