Could turn into a proper war, if Azat is able to properly pressure the sometimes very negative Vargas... This will actually be the first time the teak tough Armenian has been scheduled for the 12 round championship distance. This one's taking place at Super Bantam, a weight class that still doesn't get much recognition nor love (though I suppose it's understandable, what with the divisions relative lack of history.) Was blown away with how Azat seemingly turned the dials past where he had shown himself capable of performing before in his last bout, a big knockout win over Ronny Rios. What are your expectations for this one?
Vargas doesn't have the very prettiest lower weight undefeated record but it's a fairly ripe cherry at 31-0... Kind of reminds me of the 29-0 Jorge Lara who was knocked out in a thirty second shootout a few weeks ago. He's been matched exceptionally soft against non-punchers the past few years which I don't really understand.
At his best he appears to be but I feel like he's one of those fighters who's a bit of an illusion... He relies on having a substantial size advantage over most of his opponents & rarely being hit. Always seemed like a guy who's cutting a good amount of weight.
...or twelve. Complete mismatch, this. RR is crispy-fried well done bordering on Cajun blackened. Azat is a solid FNF level trier but that night flattered him a great deal and he's lamb to slaughter, here.
...idk Russ, going to venture onto a limb and say Nacho probably KSAB more than both of us combined, and considering his choice to put virtually all of his post-JMM huevos into the Rey basket, there's probably more to him than meets the eye. This will be his brutal coming out party.
Hmm. Regardless, he bothered to invest a few solid years with him when he could have easily retired at the same time as Dinamita with his legacy and earnings piled high enough that he didn't have to undertake any new pupils at his age.
