Matchroom Boxing sign largest TV rights deal in the history of boxing

I dont like Hearn but this could be HUGE for boxing. I just hope we get consistent tip quality shows and not mismatch galores

 

The thing is, it's not his money he's bleeding should things not work out. He basically has $7.8 mill per card plus money from the live gate, endorsements and any overseas right when DAZN do not air, which is a lot of countries at the moment. Hearn could easily throw $8 mill for each card for fighters purses and still make a profit on each show. Basically it's a very good time to be a US boxer right now as Hearn will bring in a lot of money and drive up purses.

The fact DAZN agreed for such a long term deal is amazing. If this bombs and they don't significantly increase their subscriber base by doing this then they are screwed. To break even DAZN needs to basically have 520K subscribers sign up and pay their $20 fee each month for the next 8 years. While that doesn't seem a lot when you consider all the people subscribed to Netflix and Amazon, it's still a huge risk from them.

That's why they must believe they can get US sports rights. Boxing fans alone won't hit that subscriber base target

I know Hearn was talking about adding some "Crazy Asian Talent" to his ranks aswell he said recently that Asia has so much talent they've just got no exposure.

Well, yes, but it's not going to be that simple - Hearn will obviously have interests in the success of the platform. If it is profitable it will obviously be better for him.

There's no reason he can't get a whole host of people under his promotional banner either. Most of the talent in the country is managed by Al Haymon and not signed to ongoing promotional deals, as far as I'm aware. And there's no reason Haymon fighters can't sign with Hearn to fight on this new platform. I think it'll be a success.
