Gennady Golovkin punches almost 3 times as hard as Mayweather did. In a literal sense.

When you're on the limit those extra 2 lb are what do you in. Check out Cotto / Geale.

He was literally between 149-153 1/2 for all of his fights within that 24 month span
    culminating in the Mayweather fight.

It appears there are some others who agree with that lol

“Like I said before, I’ve never fought a guy at a catchweight. I don’t fight guys at catchweights. I don’t plaster my gloves. These are things I don’t do, because I’m not that type of guy.”

"I would never want to put a fighter in a position where he's not comfortable. I want a guy when he's at his best. If he's at his best at 154 and he's strong and he's solid, then that's the fight we're fighting at. I walk around at 150, but at the end of the day - skills pay the bills.... Give me the guys where they are comfortable at their weight so there are no excuses"

"De La Hoya - Pacquiao fights him at a catchweight. Cotto - he fights him at a catchweight. When I fought De La Hoya I said 'give him to me at 154'. With Cotto - 'give him to me at 154'. Give me the guys where they are comfortable with their weight so there are no excuses"

''I look at Miguel Cotto as an undefeated fighter. He faced Pacquiao, but Pacquiao caught him at a catchweight. It wasn’t the best Miguel Cotto. He was drained; he wasn’t hydrated. Antonio Margarito was a guy who was cheating. I want him [Cotto] to be comfortable, to feel good when we meet to go into battle. I don’t want no excuses. So I’m going to go in there and be Floyd Mayweather. I’ve been there before and I know what it takes.”

    ---Floyd ''Money'' Mayweather

Ellberbe commented on Pacquiao’s catchweight win over Cotto in 2009, saying to ***** “He [Cotto] was a dead man walking when he went into the ring. The casual fan doesn’t know what difference one or two pounds can make when a fighter is already down to weight.”

"That's one thing Floyd make perfectly clear to us," Ellerbe said. "He didn't want to fight him at a catchweight, he wanted to fight him at the weight. Sometimes, you don't get full credit when you fight at a catchweight. Floyd wanted to make sure Miguel was comfortable."

    ''Canelo didn't look good yesterday''

''Problem is Floyd doesn't get tired and we've seen Canelo fade in fights before.. Having to take off that extra two pounds is.. people think it's just two pounds but when you already struggling to make 154 that extra two pounds is a lot. He [Canelo] is going to put on a lot of weight but he's not going to be able to put on the right kind of weight in just 24 hours. So he's gonna feel the fact that he's, you know, stripped his body, cutting his muscles to get to 152.''

Ah, Geale wasn't that bad man. He wasn't a 'fighter' as such but I think garbage is a little harsh. Thought he deserved the nod against Barker too, who was a decent operator. To my eyes anyway

Disagree. Geale looked like a waxwork at the weigh in. I'm surprised they didn't wheel him in on a trolley. Cotto knew that if Geale was firing on all cylinders he might lose, so he made sure that he'd kill him with the weight cut. Hell, even Roach was rubbing his hands at how Geale looked:

“I give him a lot of credit. Too many people would have ignored the contract and been over 157,” Roach said to ESPN.com. “I take my hat off to him. But for the first five rounds, we’re going all body (attack). He seemed fragile and very, very thin.”

It’s kind of sad that Roach is gloating about a fighter being weakened due to a catch-weight handicap that his fighter Cotto used to get an advantage. Cotto used his A-side pull to get that handicap against Geale, a fighter who isn’t as popular as him. It’s disappointing that the catch-weight for the fight was tilted in Cotto’s favor."

Mayweather only sits down on his punches when he's beating up women.
