Only a swift-moving light heavyweight with excellent durability is going to best Jeffries, and he'll also desire a large ring.

Tunney would have the best chance as his excellent jab, quick feet, decent reach ( 76", close to Jeffries ) durability top ring IQ might get him points wins. Spinks and Charles, not durable enough.

Most contemporizes the times view Corbett and Fitzsimmons as better than any post-1920 guy who fought at 175 pounds with heavyweights. The double standards you'll see on this board is Jeffries often criticized by fighting them, yet more famous champions such as Johnson, Dempsey, and Louis were in fact beaten by sub 200-pound men, floored, and KO'd. All three of them.

Jeffries was a big man 6’2 220lb. Much bigger than 185lb demosey who was nearly a light heavyweight himself, and 192-205lb jack Johnson. Joe Louis only struggled with 1 man below 180lb, a 27 year old Billy Conn.

Men age 35 + who weighed less than 165lb like Choynski and Fitzsimmosn gave jeffries a lot of trouble. These men were giving up nearly 40lb weight advantages

Interesting article I recently read by Jimmy DeForest rating heavyweight champs pre Dempsey where Jimmy was completely unimpressed w Jeffries and calls him highly flawed and over rated.

DeForest might be able to shed some light on the loaded gloves thing with Dempsey

“When I handled Kid McCoy I used to bandage his hands with a certain kind of adhesive tape. As soon as McCoy drew on the gloves, the tape hardened and, as a result, he was able to inflict unusual punishment. I wound Dempsey's hands with the same kind of bandages, which Willard inspected. The story that Dempsey wore aluminum pads over his knuckles is a lie. His bandages became hardened, no doubt, and that was why he cut Willard's face to ribbons.”

    What were his rankings?
