Something you see used extensively is a trainer pressing his finger under the nose (between the top lip and the nose) of the fighter after he has been rocked. What is the purpose of this? What does it do?

Yea, that's probably what he's seeing.

Hmm, maybe. That never crossed my mind. It doesn't appear there is anything there, though. Sometimes trainers will use their thumb instead. It looks like they are applying pressure.

Never noticed that before. There is a pressure point there and it's in acupuncture it's a point used for restoring consciousness and calming the spirit.

What brought it to mind was when I saw the display page of the video for Linares. The trainer is applying it there. But I have seen it done so many times. I just have never heard any explanation for it.

i was wondering if maybe it was related to treating a bloody nose, stopping enough flow of blood for coagulation to occur.

I don't think so because in most instances the fighter does not have a bloody nose.

There's an artery between the lip and nose, when you press it it slows down blood supply to the nose.

It s used as a haulting tactic for preventing excess bleeding or for preventing bleeding.
