The fighter i would like Ayala Jr to fight most for the title would have have being Mathew Hilton. Would have been a almighty slugfest.

Some footage of Ayala in his final fight prior to his first "retirement".

No, not him. He was tall and fast and he probably outboxes the plodding fatboy Ayala.
Jun-Suk Hwang and Koichi Wajima would probably beat him too.
Nobuhiro Ishida (who KO'd James Kirkland) knocks Ayala out at 154, so not him either.

Ayala looks a bit soft but shows very good hand speed and ring generalship. He easily gets inside of Herreras long reach. Once inside, the body work and straight right were highly effective. Herrera's jab is too pawing and not stiff enough to keep Ayala at bay. Ayala's defense looks decent. Herrera's style is very similar to Juan Coggi but without an explosive straight left. Herrera was overrated but shows some ability but doesn't look like a legitimate top 10 contender. A very good choice of opponent by the Duvas. Ayala v Moore would have been a great fight. Moore would have been wide open for Ayala's speed and power and Moore had the power to keep Ayala honest and test his chin.

I thought it was a fantastic short bout. Not a classic mind you but a fun scrap, Herrera wasn't there for just a paycheck and showed plenty of guts and ability.
