Watching it live before replays, I’d have instantly said no, it was a flash knockdown. But seeing the close up of it, his eyes seem to tell a different story. I’d lean more towards a flash knockdown but I’m not too sure
It was a very good punch but Loma took it very well. The fact that he kind of danced away from Linares after it is explained by experience (it's always prudent to take some time to recover and to not rush things after situations like this). Plus Loma has an uncanny "inside timer" — let's just remember how many times in different fights he almost stopped and then (just in a second or two) the bell rang. So, when he'd heard the "10 secs left" sound, he knew exactly what to do.
It was shades of Andy Lee getting KD by BJS, although Lee didn’t see that shot at all whereas Loma saw it but it was too late to react. He was probably momentarily hurt but his fantastic conditioning helped him recover quickly. The fact that he was alert enough to get up, calmly and stably walk to the corner and then face the ref suggests it was more “flash” than “hurt”.
A little shocked & ego bruised yes but hurt? Clearly no. His legs were fine, his eyes clear, he was straight back up. It was just overconfidence, he has a great chin, he walked straight into the shot which adds to it's effectiveness too! Loma has too much athleticism for his own good at times lol the straight right is a SP's Kryptonite! He was cruising & styling on Linares by then & just made a mistake.. Got caught by a peach! I love that he basically went... 'OK, good shot, fair play, now watch this'.. TKO 10! They can peddle this 'he was hurt' stuff all they like to try & take the edge off the butt hurt but he clearly wasn't! It was Linares that was hurt!
Not properly hurt, no. His legs were fine. He got caught square on by a wonderfully timed shot - he can't be doing that against Mikey because he just might not get up. But no, I wouldn't say he was properly hurt. I think him going down will prove to me a good thing actually, it'll guard against complacency.
No I think he was more embarrassed and surprised he'd gone down. He got up immediately and his legs were totally beneath him. Not even the slightest wobble in them.
That shot 100% got his attention, his legs may have gone under him for a very brief moment or it might have been a flash knock down. He completely backed off for the rest of the round because even he wasn't sure himself. It may or may not have hurt him, really hard to tell.
For me. to call a fighter 'hurt' there has to be some sign of unsteadiness when they try to get up, or while taking the count, or in how they fight subsequently. Otherwise, I call it 'stunned' and those kind of KDs are usually balance issues...
Well it was a nice clean shot that he took. I doubt it he was badly damaged just because : 1st he got up quickly without any doubts; 2nd he landed pretty fine. Anyways he took the best shots of Linares and showed some great heart. Every punch by someone that is a world champion would shock you for a moment.
Call it what you want, but Lomacheko was definitely buzzed/hurt, even if a little. But he recovered well.
Yeah me too. Their lead feet did come together a bit when he went down but I'm not sure if it had any effect at all. This content is protected
And to be fair, Linares timed that punch beautifully. Loma took a shot and went down.... it happens lol.
No he wasn't hurt. He walked into a good shot but got up immediately, legs were steady underneath him, looked like he had all his faculties and was aware of what had happened and why. If you didn't see the knockdown and was only shown a clip of him walking to the corner you wouldn't suspect he'd just been dropped, he looked absolutely fine to me.
Yeah it was a perfect shot straight down the pipe, very hard not to go down from those, especially if your feet are even slightly out of position.
