“Yes, of course, we are interest in that fight. Vasyl Lomachenko just beat Jorge Linares and he has the lightweight belt now, which means we can fight for a title. I could take a fight with Lomachenko at 135, but that would be pushing me to my limits."

    — Pacquiao to World Boxing News

Lomachenko has said that 137 is a doable catchweight.... So can a title be won at a catchweight ABOVE the division where the belt lies?

    Nope. At least it shouldn't.

No, I think. It even sounds ridiculous — fighting for the lightweight title, but above the lightweight limits.

If the fighter was as famous as Ray Leonard was in the 80`s then yes, his situation was similar to this because he fought for the light heavyweight WBC title at light heavy but because of his name the WBC stated if he won he would also be awarded the super middle WBC title at the same time! Then again Jose S. was completely corrupt.

Leonard vs Lalonde was contested at 168. So they were under(or at) the SMW limit and the LHW limit.
There are no lower limits, only upper limits.

But even then, LaLonde and Leonard both had to weigh in at 168lbs to be eligible for the WBC SMW strap. Pac wants to win the LW title while fighting at 140lbs.

Oh I thought it was fought at light heavy because they said Ray stuff sandbags in his pants to make the heavier weight and looked a lot lighter than Lalonde when they fought.

Pacquiao said he wants to fight for the title and said that 135 might be pushing him to the limit, so I'm wondering if Pacquiao accepts Lomachenko's 137 catchweight proposal, would it still be possible for a title...

Can't go over the limit for a title to be on the line. if they met at 137, would have to be non-title, or for a belt at 140.

Yeah, that makes sense. Just thought it could be a situation where it is at the beltholder's discretion.

But, in fact, would fans care much for belts in a fight like this (Lomachenko vs. Pacquiao)..?
