I've just been watching the video of when Lomachenko & Garcia meet and at first glance, the size difference just looks ridiculous, they could be as much as 3 weight divisions apart from the video if you didn't know any better...

BUT, Lomachenko was near the end of making 130, and Garcia had just fought Broner so was eating what he wanted. Also, Garcia says that he was 146 in the ring against Broner. Now, I don't buy that Lomachenko only rehydrated 3 pounds, I could be wrong, but I just don't buy it, I'd say he was around 142.

knowing that, is the weight difference as much as first thought, is it just a prepared excuse for if Lomachenko loses or is the weight difference, as is widely thought, quite a lot?

think it's clear to anyone who's seen my posts how much of a fan of Lomachenko I am, so I'm not trying to bait Loma fans with the "prepared excuse" line, I'm genuinely curious as to what people think

Garcia was definitely more than 146 lb in the ring against Broner, he weighed in at 139.5 lb - heavier than Broner.

Well it ain't small and that will play a factor if Garcia and Lomachenko fight each other someday. As Garcia unlike Linares will establish his natural weight advantage better.

That in itself doesn't mean he rehydrated more

I made the exact same observation. Garcia looked smaller than his opponents at 135, and Loma did not look much smaller than Linares. I think if they fought, no more than 5 lbs will separate them in the ring.

Loma is skilled enough where it shouldn't play a factor. It's not like he will be three inches shorter and 15 pounds smaller.

Loma was rehydrating from 130 to 138 for a difference of 8 pounds. Loma was at least 140... 142-144 looks about right.

Mikey is too big for Loma and he will KO him.

I believe Loma spent a fair bit of time in the RGBA and in interviews with the Garcias any time the Loma fight is brought up they all seem smug and VERY confident of Mikey winning. Like it's not even a question of whether Mikey would win.

Makes me wonder if maybe they saw something in sparring. All speculation but thats just the impression I get.

Just for the record I am a fan of both, so no bias here.

I don't think that they have ever sparred... Mikey would have mentioned this in a Ellie Suckdick video.

Edit: oh, you meant saw something in Loma sparring other dudes.

Indeed so. However if my eyes are any good I'd suggest Garcia was bigger than 146 lb in the ring.

It's hard to tell. Charlo looked 15 pounds bigger than Williams, Linares didn't look 16 pounds bigger than Lomachenko. Donaire looked significantly bigger than Rigondeaux, as did Lomachenko. Lomachenko looked heavier than Russell Jr to me but allegedly they were within a half pound of each other.

Not sure if they have ever sparred, but you would think it likely they would have with him (Loma) having spent so much time in their gym?

As I say it's just the impression I got from the Garcia camp, that they saw something when Loma was in their gym.
