Hard to say because Canelo is still establishing his legacy at middleweight the GGG fight will say a lot.I think he could beat Antufermon Canelo counter punches very well and is very effective against guys who come forward to him. I think Antufermo would make it tough on Canelo though like against Hagler but like Hagler it would take a gift on the score cards for Antufermo to even get a draw. Hamsho was very tough as well but like Antufermo i thin his style would play into Canelo's counter combination punching style and I think Canelo would win a hard fought decision likely. Sibson was tough as well but I think Canelo beats him to with his better combination punches may even finish Sibson. Minter really haven't seen a whole lot of pretty much all four of the guys mentioned haven't seen that much of. Out of Hagler middleweight opponents I'd look for Hearns, Leonard, likely Mugabi and perhaps Duran to beat Canelo. Wouldn't count out some of the others to beat Canelo I don't think he could replicate Hagler's run. I'd include the four mentioned as all possibly beating Canelo but overall I think Canelo is more skilled and my money would be on him in those match ups.

Canelo and Hagler should not even be mentioned in the same sentence, as far as I am concerned

I think Canelo would beat Mugabi; maybe I said it earlier in the thread.

You still think Hamsho and Antuofermo walk right through Canelo?

the thing about Hagler's opposition was they were very strong and hard punching guys and Canelo would have had his hands full.

I'm not sure that Canelo beats Obelmejias x2, to be honest.

Obelmejias was a huge middleweight that beat Park for a super middleweight strap.

Certainly was. A tall mobile middleweight that could put his punches together pretty well is kind of a nightmare for Canelo to face.

Obelmejias possibly more than anyone would have benefited from the SMW division being established about a half a decade earlier. A tall, natural SMW with deep WBA connections...he'd have probably dominated the division if it was established around 1979.

Watch Obelmejias vs Hagler one. Obel was fearless and landed some heavy punches on the iron chin Hagler despite taking heavy punishment. He fought Hagler when he was unstoppable and outside the incredibly tough Hamsho he lasted the longest in Hagler first 7 defenses. Yes he was a WBA favorite but being be put in the position to face Hagler twice is a bit harsh.

Obelmejias gets the shaft as much as any fighter on these boards. An underrated fighter for a number of fairly complicated reasons.

He put in a great effort against Hagler for sure. Better than some higher regarded fighters for sure.

I feel pretty good about that one. Goes much like the first Hagler fight, except Canelo focuses on his skinny body more.
