You can't factor in his illegal punches as legit power punches when you judge his true power. Also, if 3 out of 4 punches in a knockout combination is illegal you can't judge his last punch as a clean knockout punch. I've gone thru his KO highlight reel many times and the cheating is cut clear all thru his whole career. Look at this for example: This content is protected It's not true power, it's cheating demonstrated for you all ignorant, biased people to see. Just think it's a coincidence for this fight alone? Have a look at this: This content is protected Elbows, wrists, slaps, illegal punches behind the ears, the backside of the head, even on the neck. You are either biased or deluded. All the cheating aside: Wilder's true punching power is WORSE than the heavy hitters of the division, plain and simple. And if you say the Szpillka knockout is evidence enough you simply do not see the fact that Szpillka walked right into the punch and was timed perfectly on the weak side of the chin. Szpillka drew most of the force to the punch by himself, Wilder just timed the snap into it.
Wilder has the power to punch through a high guard defence. His power is legit even if his windmilling is somewhat hilarious. But he's technically incredibly flawed. If Ortiz wasn't old enough to be Castro's brother he would have ktfo Wilder. Anyone decent will time Wilder. Fury would make him no mas in tears.
Old how? He was younger than Wladmir when Wlad fought Joshua. As a matter of fact, many say Ortiz' real age is 27.
Some of his punches remind me a bit of how Sam Peter dropped a few. Some were on the chin, but against Wlad and Toney, Peter landed on the side of the head, top of the head, kinda like Maidana did first fight with Floyd. He got a lot of shots landed on the dome. Wilder has knocked out foes to the chin, temple, nose, whole face, head, side of the head, hell if its not the back of the head aka rabbit punching, then it's legit.
His punch technique is truly awful which is why many of his hooks are slaps and why he's had some injuries. His clubbing style windmills also result in a lot of illegal behind the head shots. But there's nothing wrong with his straight right hand and that's his big weapon.
Well if you say so it must be true. It's just that he did some incredibly hard paper rounds when he was young.
I don't get the point of this thread. Every fighter at the top level cheats to some degree and at the end of the day it's not cheating if you don't get caught or if the ref doesn't care. Wlad got away with blatantly pushing, wrestling, and leaning on opponents for years and was never disqualified. Joshua punched Parker on every ref break and was holding behind the head, which is against the rules, but was never warned by the ref. Tyson Fury got away with using a foreman against Cunningham to setup his knockout shotout, which is also an illegal move, but at the end of the day a win is a win and a loss is a loss. Good post. Another thing is that when Wilder gets his opponent hurt he gets all excited and swings wildly, resulting in some illegal blows.
Wilder's main weapon is his right swing aimed behind the ear with or without the wrist... Wilder's second weapon of choice is his straight right hand that he uses to penetrate thru the guard, or after a peeling jab for an open clean shot. Wilder uses his straight right if his slapping swing is neglected first. That's why he struggled with both Szpllka and Ortiz southpaw stance and guard. Thus the slapping swing is easier to detect and prepare for. When he knocked down/out Ortiz he combined the straight clean punches with illegal punches that soften up Ortiz. Just watch the highlights, all of the evidence is there, I'm right. Against Szpillka he timed Szpillka rushing in, so Szpilka drew most of the force behind the punch by himself. Also, Szpillka angeled his chin in a very bad posture just before the impact, a lot like Lewis did before getting KTFO against Rahman. A shot from the side is vastly more dangerous to the chin than on the line in front of you - even if it's less powerful with less force and less snap behind it, to begin with. Show me proof of Wilder's power and I will definitely have a fair look at it.
