What about Wilder winning another sleeptime UD vs. Stiverne? Even one fight can shutter and reverse the view of certain fighters. You can win a fight via robbed decision. You can win a fight life and dead. You can win a fight razor sharp. You can loose the whole fight and win via lucky punch. You can win via margin decision. You can win via wide UD. You can win via dominant UD und hurt the opponent. You can win via UD and drop the boxer numerous times. You can win via late knockout. You can win in all that ways getting hurt yourself. You can win early via lucky knockout. You can press the boxer against the well and knock him out early. You can win by brutal demolishion. There´s a WWWIIIIIDDDEEEE range of performance variance evaluating a fight and rating it. I think I don´t need to explain the reason why Tyson vitalized the whole game around the world and Larry Holmes did not. He did rarely loose a round, and when he didn´t win via wide UD he KTFO´d opponents in brutal ways. There´s a reason Tyson was seen as the GOAT by some folks. You a right about Holyfield, maybe he might win vs a fokused Douglas in shape as well. But he is not gonna achieve the dominance, or call it "goodness of winning", which Tyson achieved. I see maybe a hand full of fighters repeating the goodness in a way Tyson achieved. One is George Foreman, and I´m not very sure about the rest.
I just find it incredible that such an under achiever and seemingly disinterested person had that ability all along. Buster seem d to have it all that night. Would his dad ever have believed the kid he had to drag to the gym would one day beat one of the feared fighters of all time.
Check out his figh with Tucker. Very odd to quit that way when he was the better boxer the entire fight. He got hit with one decent punch. Almost looked fixed. Yea when I watched that fight with Tyson the thing that stood out was that Buster was a tremendous athlete. His agility and footwork reminded me of a basketball player. Dynamite was the prototype Philly Pit Bull middleweight.
I've noticed that too. Back surgery I think it was. But still, he's been a slow and almost incoherent geezer the way he's talking. Those meds are friggin quadruple extra strength, no doubt.
BS. No other poster at ESB (is this place still called ESB?) posts on as many Tyson hate threads as you do. Let the hate flow through you. It gives you focus...
I brought up Holyfield with Unforgiven, because that's who he This content is protected defends more than any other boxer here. Unforgiven doesn't like anyone giving praise to Mike Tyson and can't handle unbiased posters like yourself doing that either. He'll probably respond with "Sangria doesn't like anyone criticizing Mike Tyson", which is false. Keep up the good work. I know you're unbiased towards Iron Mike.
I'm a Tyson fan. Holyfield is greater than him. Tyson is still great. I think his win over Thomas is underrated. That was a good version of Thomas that showed up. His win over Tucker is underrated as well watch the first 3 rounds Tyson counters every Tucker right hand with a left hook to the body until Tucker doesn't want to let his elbow leave his ribs anymore. The win was legit his hand wasn't that hurt. His wins over Ruddock are underrated because Tyson was nearly Taylor made for Ruddock but Tyson still walked through fire to beat him up. Tyson showed a combativeness and willingness to take punishment that he never did under Rooney. Under Rooney he forced clinches and spoiled if the other guy hit him(watch rounds 3,4,5 of the Thomas fight Most of the guys he beat went on years later when they were older and more shopworn to give Evander or Bowe all they could handle. I think Tyson was not well prepared for Douglas but Douglasmighthavestillbeaten him anyway. That version of Douglas was the best SHW ive seen. Even if Tyson had just been a fringe contender and not Tyson, the performance would have still been very impressive.
Excellent!! Very well stated. Especially like the and agree with the Rooney concept. Best post on Tyson I, a Tyson disliker, have ever seen. KUDOS
Holmes and Stewart with Evander Bruno and Tucker with Lewis. I should rephrase. I meant that Tyson beat younger versions of those guys easier than other great fighters did later on. His tendency to win so spectacularily against fighters that others struggled with had alot to do with his all-or nothing style though I must admit.
Tyson was great in every sense of the word. He ruined all the good work they put into him by basically being a drug addict. Stopped training properly then the greatness turned to just good. He was getting by on the work they put into him all them years growing up. It was only that he was great that kept him competing how he did. He could have rewritten heavyweight history. I see him beating holyfield and lewis....but looking back it was an impossible ask to continue on the path he was on. The thing that made him great...the training/dedication was always gonna destroy him cause it was so hardcore and obsessive. Add to the fact he was a deeply troubled guy with a dodgy upbringing. It was actually a bit of a miracle he went as far as he did. Getting something like a twenty year career out of it. I still see him beating holyfield and lewis if he stayed on the right path tbh. Both great fighters....Tyson at his best before the rot set in was a prodigy.
hope so but back injuries tend to linger. I'd not risk a surgeon on it either a lot of them are clowns.
