Will D. Wilder vs A. Joshua be bigger than Mayweather-Hatton in Vegas?

    Discuss.

Lots of rumours and even Stephen Espinoza is hinting that this mega fight will take place in Vegas.

The hype will be through the roof in the UK, many will make the trip over. Deontay may not be that big in US compared to Floyd in 2007, but could this HW fight be as big?

It should be. In Britain, most sensible people knew Hatton was unlikely to win (though every time I see him faceplanting the corner, my heart still hurts). He was hugely popular, but AJ is currently the nation's sweetheart. Casuals think he's invincible ("the greatest of all time", said someone I know!), but they'll be pumped up by the Bronze Bomber once they see his highlight reels. Everybody loves a HW title fight. Obviously I can only speak for Britain, but if Hearn does his promotion right (and I'd bank on him doing so) this could be the biggest fight in British boxing history.

For UK fans it's probably bigger than Mayweather/Hatton as AJ is likely the most popular British boxer we've seen in a long time and by far the biggest draw. Hatton/Mayweather did 1.2 mill buys on SKY and Joshua regularly does over 1 mill buys and did a reported 1.5 mill for Wlad so Joshua/Wilder should eclipse Mayweather/Hatton in the UK, especially if you factor in the fact UK PPV's are now £19.95 not £14.95 when Hatton fought Mayweather.

But I would be surprised if it was as big in the US as Mayweather/Hatton was. Mayweather had just beaten De La Hoya and the fight did 850K PPV's, generating $47 million from the PPV. No fighter on the US PPV debut has done more than 400K so for Joshua/Wilder to do more than 850K would take some doing.

So the UK may generate $42 mill if it does 1.5 mill buys, generating $17 mill more. But for the fight to generate as much including US revenue, the US will need to do about $30 mill in revenue or about 500K buys. Though the US may need to do more as the 1.5 mill Joshua/Wlad did was on UK time, might be hard to do as much if the fight is in the US and on US time.

Could be, mainly because the enthusiasm and support for AJ's US debut would be overwhelming.

It should be in the UK for financial reasons but the officiating is janky and rigged.
I hope this will make Wilder more popular ,win or lose, but I really don't see it happening here in the U.S..
Like Stallion said, this may work if Joshua fans come out to Vegas and represent.

There would be a shitload of British fans in Vegas I should think. One thing you can say about us as boxing fans is that we're good at supporting our fighters. And, for reasons that elude me, British people love an excuse to go to Vegas. In a country that contains beautiful places like Alaska, the Rockies, New England; culturally rich places like New York and New Orleans and Tennessee etc. etc.; breathtaking natural wonders like Monument Valley and Denali; genuine wilderness where you can see wild bears, moose, wolves and Christian fundamentalists - we all seem to want to go to Vegas, which seems to me to be the arsehole of North America. Weird.

    Haha. I'm Welsh.

Anyway, not sure who you are, but it's people like you that make the USA unpopular everywhere. You only seem to exist online, because every American I've met in real life has been lovely. I'm gonna "go right ahead" and assume you a) don't own a passport; b) do own a Make America Great Again cap. The easiest way to make your country better would be to sterilise people like you.

Easily if it's promoted properly, but with how poorly a lot of big fights are promoted nowadays it's anyone's guess.

Look dude I don’t want to waste my time on some sensitive idiot from rainy sheethole aka united kingdumb .
Your presumptions is just indication of your IQ.
I was born in nyc and raised in europe and asia , I owe passport and NY hat, that’s all. And I’m not sure if die hard trump supporters are any dumber than royal family worshippers.
Btw you come along as typical british redneck , in other words eurotrash.
Once again where was I wrong?
When I called brits gullible bunch, when said that AJ is one of the most overrated ever? or when I asked you , if like before every orher world cup you believe england will win the cup this time?

...so I'm just gonna write a couple of hundred words in response. I sure hope I don't write anything stupid or ignorant.

    Lol

Can you remember the names of the countries?

One is a meaningless, powerless institution which almost nobody in Britain cares about, and which Americans seem to talk about more than British people. The other is Donald Trump, a self-interested, incoherent, arrogant, multi-bankrupted, dangerously stupid reality TV personality, elected "Leader of the Free World" by Americans.

    Not a thing.

Literally nobody in Britain nor England thinks this will happen.
