I've always felt Hearns edged it ( based on the knockdowns ), though the official ruling was a draw.

The official cards read:

• Judge: Tom Kaczmarek 113-112
• Judge: Dalby Shirley 112-112
• Judge: Jerry Roth 112-113

I thought Tommy nicked it. Can't remember how I scored it, but I remember thinking he was unlucky not to get the W.

Definitely Hearns, the draw was a gift to Leonard.

Tough because Leonard had a Hearns hanging on for dear life in round 12. If it was a fifteen round fight Leonard would have stopped him again.

I am not sure. Hearns was hurt in round 9 at the end and came back. He recuperated well at that time, and Ray was out of it also..

Leonard himself said that he thought Hearns won the draw.

Hoping the link works:

That was pretty classy of him. Most guys think they should have won fights they got KO'd in.

Hagler Leonard was closer than this IMO ... Hearns knocked him down twice and won this .. Tommy the boss of this one ... Was really never the fan of the peoples fighters'(but respect) Ray, Floyd, Ali, etc ... seems like the advantages going in were always there

Each round Leonard got dropped he had a big round right after that round. Rd 12 easily could've been a 2-point rd for him. The fight was pretty much a replay of the 1st fight . A fight were if the 1st fight had been a 12 rd fight Hearns wins, anything past 12 rd's Leonard wins. It just how those two matched up. If they fought 10 times five 12 rd's and five 15 rd's they would be 5 and 5.

Hearns was flat out robbed in an excellent performance. Rematch should have happened sooner, but it was still a hell of a fight.
