To be fair the hall of fame really isn't the be all and end all. The best example I can give in another sport is Andre Johnson who was probably the best Wide Reciver in the NFL for a good 3/4 period, but there's no way he's going to get in there and quite frankly doesn't deserve to be, but an absolute monster nonetheless. Some of these guys are better fighters than fighters that are already in the HOF
The only one that qualifies for me is Taylor because he beat Hopkins who was far better than anyone that these other guys fought, but Wright beat Taylor, so I don`t know.
Why the hell would Eubank be on the list? He beat Benn when he wasn`t fully rounded as a fighter and just followed him around the ring getting picked off then they fought to a draw, how does that make him a HOF candidate? McCallum was far more impressive in beating Watson than Eubank was both times and Chris was behind on the scorecards when he scored the fatal knockdown via an uppercut against a tired Watson, he did nothing else at all and got beat by Collins twice.
The Winky fight was disputable, Moorer`s win over Holy was awful, it was a bore snore and there was something wrong with Holy`s heart, the rematch settled that dispute and proved Moorer couldn`t take punishment from a firm hitting heavy, I put Taylor above these three for beating Hopkins but Tarver`s win over Jones was just a hard punch against someone who might have dodged that same shot a couple of years before, their first fight wasn`t that impressive and Jones was finished by the time of the third fight.
For what it's worth I think Winky won that fight and I know that Holy wasn't in the best physical condition for the first Moorer fight. They still have 'wins' over fighters in the HOF though, the way you put it was a bit misleading. To be fair I didn't even know Winky was inducted this year so maybe it's a good thing you said that, otherwise I'd have been none the wiser to.
I cannot see how Moorer was hall of fame. He had a good story and he got a lot of recognition. like most heavyweights get a little too much in comparison to guys at lesser weights. But he didn't do anything great at heavyweight to warrant Hall of Fame, and 175 he was not there long.
I dunno, I mean none of these guys really grab me...they don't impress me at all. Maybe,...the closest case would be Tarver...for defrocking "superman",...but he really falls short.
The Boxing Hall of Fame is bogus. Puerto Rican Esteban de Jesus who fought a memorable trilogy with Duran is not in it and Ray Mancini is.
Its a Hall of Fame, not a Hall of Success. And therefore Tarver, Hatton, Froch, Mayorgra and Vargas are justified.
Carlos de Leon - nice numbers, but lack of career defining wins alongside eyesore losses. Was completely dominated in his one fight against a prime HOF fighter. No real case for inclusion. Michael Moorer - By standards of the HOF, as a lineal heavyweight champion he should get in. Good run at 175 and defining win over ATG heavyweight. Tim Witherspoon - Probably the best of the 80s alphabet brigade outside Holmes and Tyson, but didn't do enough to distinguish himself from the pack. Antonio Tarver - May not be a popular choice, but should definitely get in based on being the first to legitimately beat an ATG, as well as a pretty tight resume outside of this (Griffin, Harding, Glen Johnson, Reggie Johnson). Won rematches against the first 3 guys to beat him. Fernando Vargas - did enough pre-Trinidad to make an argument with wins over Quarty and Wright. After that though lost virtually every major fight, which will probably scupper his chances. Ricardo Mayorga - A tough guy but not HOF material. Was outclassed in most of his major fights. Ricky Hatton - big win over top 5 at 140, and several wins against titlists. Fell way short against the two best fighters of the era, but probably did enough before then to earn a spot. If you want to play on the "Fame" aspect, this will obviously increase his chances. Carl Froch - Several quality wins, with only one unavenged defeat against legitimately great fighter. It would be harsh for him not to get in. Jermain Taylor - very difficult choice. Two wins over ATG and draw against HOF fighter, but patchy career outside of that and 3 brutal stoppage defeats before he hit 30. Can make an argument either but on balance I'd say no.
