Groves OUT of WBSS final - Eubank rumoured replacement

I'd be shocked if Groves makes the final.

 

There's no better substitute for the final than Eubank from a promotional point of view. I would have thought from a lot of fans POV too, but going by the reactions of many in this thread some would rather he be kept in the naughty boy corner and forced to take a long hard look at himself. God forbid he actually beat Smith and they have to suffer him being in the mix again.

Outside of Groves, Ramirez would obviously be the ideal replacement. From a selfish POV I'd rather Korobov got the call but I have a feeling his time's passed and Benavidez will likely old man him in July. Uzcategui's a worthy but boring option as Korobov bested him and Ramirez would almost certainly do the same. Braehmer would likely lose to all of the above and outside of the Sauerland connection, should never have been included in the first place. None however, come close to ticking the promotional boxes an all british final would.

In Eubank's favour, I'd like an answer to the question the Groves defeat raised, of whether it's a case of Groves producing the performance of his career and besting a very good opponent in Eubank, or alternatively that Eubank wasn't the full article to begin with and Groves was simply well above the level he could operate at.

If Smith beats Eubank then the question's been answered (to a degree) and he rolls into a bout with Groves with even more hype attached - people would still get the final they initially wanted. However, if he loses and Groves accepts a rematch with Eubank, we'll get a definitive answer to the question. The amount of pissed knickers the prospect of that happening would induce amongst Eubank's detractors isn't worth thinking about.

 

Young Christopher lives and dies by the Warrior's Code. If he is given the opportunity to fight Smith in the final, you don't even need to speculate about whether or not he would grant Groves a shot for the Ali Trophy. One thing Eubank has in abundance is honour and dignity. He'd probably put the WBSS prize money on the line too in a rematch for Groves if he beats Smith. It's the Warrior's Code.

Sadly Eubank couldnt crack that warriors "code" when the GGG fight was put forward to him after spending over a year calling him out and him and his team saying they would do a number on GGG. I would say he and the whole team lost a lot of dignity that night. was it not Daniel Jacobs he ducked also to instead fight at domestic level?

They like to stick to this "code" when it suits them which is contradictory bud.

 

Utter BS. The Eubanks are all about money. Not a chance he puts up the prize money in a rematch.

I don't think he was judging by the way he was schlurping down Team Eubank's cream coloured Kool-Aid for the run up to the Groves fight.

 

On purely sporting grounds, I don't see why Eubank Jr should be in the final over Nieky Holzken, both were well-beaten semi-finalists. The only reason for Eubank Jr to get the gig is financial, rake in the PPVs from casuals.

 

You could argue that Eubank at least progressed through a stage of the WBSS in the quarter finals. Holzken didn't.

Just playing devil's advocate here. I don't wamt Eubank in the final either. He doesn't deserve to be in the final. If it's not Groves vs. Smith then the final has lost all meaning.

 

In the spirit of the tournaments scoring system, should it not be retrospectively scored between the two semi finalists in which case Eubank Jr would progress having won the 9th round of his fight against Groves and Holzken loosing his.

There is a certain rationale there, but it strikes me as a weak way to justify who competes in that was purported to be a "best of the best" finale.

That would be the kind of bull**** fudging that I felt the WBSS was meant to eliminate. I had hoped for an end to arbitrary rules, largely made-up on-the-spot to serve financial expediency. I wanted men to fight one-another in direct competition until there was an unarguable winner... perhaps I was naive.

 

These are the tournament rules in the event a fight is scored a draw.

 

They should delay the final till September/October and make a fight between Eubank Jr and Holzken in June/July.
