I challenge you to produce any contemporary articles or writeups putting Duran around 201 pounds in the summer of 1980.

I would also be interested in contemporary sources claiming that Duran was in the steam room the day before the weigh-in, though that doesn't seem particularly extreme or unusual (certainly not proof of a welterweight coming down 50+ pounds).

So he had his excuses, and he was a sore loser. So what?
All that says is he lacked professional decorum.

Fact of the matter is he was never the same fighter after “no sigo”, never.
Just look at his body. He never again had that finely chiseled physique that he sported in Montreal.

You think Duran was the same guy that showed up in Canada?

Yea okay. The same way he stopped him in the 3rd fight? Ray was gonna keep running, moving and win a decision. The only way he could stop Duran is the way it happened.

Duran wasn't the same guy that showed up in Canada? Was there a secret twin brother that filled in for fights in the more remote areas? And Duran lost the moment he laid hands on millions of dollars? Time to change the TKO loss to a TMD loss (too much dosh)

it is an insult on Ray Leonard to assume Ray could not change his style and fight the way he did to befuddle and confuse Duran and make him quit.

Can you point me to where he made this excuse for the Benitez loss? I have him on record accepting it quite well and just saying that he didn't feel very strong at the weight and was outdone.

If that were the case Duran would he have quit on his stool after round 1 of the Hearns fight. A bully who was scared to take a loss wouldn't.

Thats funny but yea pretty much anyone who followed the sport and knows what their looking at can see he isn't the same. Unless they don't wanna see. The easy journalistic hook is much better.

It was a combination of things. The weight loss and it's intangibles followed by the meal leading to an upset stomach. Then we had Leonard outboxing him before showboating as well with Duran not being able to do sfa about it. By the 8th Duran was struggling, feeling heavy and listless and knew it wasn't going to be his night and hence quit.

But if that were the case it just further proves that Duran was not his normal self. He took everything Ray had in Montreal and laughed, took shots from Hagler, and took shots from Iran Barkley.

Not to be funny but I've always suspected that Duran **** his self during the fight. Taking tons of diet pills, can' catch this clown, oh ****!!!

That would be something that would make you give it up. Hence why he can't explain himself abou that night.

I don't think he did. It made the rounds here years back and led to some real hilarity and debate lol. After the depth of hate he copped i think telling the world he took a dump in the trunks would have been notably less painful. In his book he freely admits to shitting himself at a restaurant (in the USA from memory) after going silly on beer and ice cream. In white too i believe lmao
