Thanks mate. It’s a really fine (subjective) line it seems. Dehydrating to make weight is quite clever but there should be some kind of limit. For example, Groves is very very close to that line imo. We are officially adults at 18, but we only really fill out/broaden up in our late 20’s. Trying to still make the same weight class that you was in when you were essentially still a kid is asking for trouble. Spencer Oliver was on about it on his podcast earlier in week. When he was weight drained, every punch felt like a sledgehammer. It’s ok hydrating after the weigh-in but the key issue is not just hydrating the muscles etc it’s having the sufficient fluid surrounding the brain, too. Whilst we know McDonnell hydrated 26ib since the weigh in, was there sufficient fluid around the brain cos that first left hook to the temple finished him. He never recovered from it.
Tbf Tete will give inoue a real fight, now that i will be looking fwd to. Cant see burnett beating either of them
Much stricter weight rules need to be enforced. Rehydration limits. In-ring weight disparity limits - the whole 9 yards. Its a serious issue.
They defo need to get a grip on weight draining, especially at the lower weights. After the weigh-in fighters should only be able to put on say no more than 6lbs and weights should be tested all the way through camp. Guys putting on a stone overnight is a joke. This has been going on since Gatti the organization's needs to show some steel here and do something about it.I t's ruining the sport.
The fight was over so quickly that it's impossible to know how much of it was down the weight and how much was simply getting caught cold by a monster puncher (pardon the pun). What we do know is that Jamie looked like **** at the weigh-in, looked sluggish in the fight, and seems to have had an inhuman weight cut/refuel in between. I'm not sure where McDonnell goes from here, but it should be well north of 118. I'd be surprised if we even see him at 122 based on what happened here. He has the frame to handle featherweight. As for Inoue, he looked awesome but there is some noteworthy comp at 118 to really test him, or even below if any of the 115 guys move up as well.
I know what you are saying momus...but sometimes it is what you see. Sometimes we over analyse. Even allowing for the various factors impacting on Jamie....inoue was just plain awesome. Looks like a China doll.....punches like a pick axe!
It’s the characteristic weight drained Brit fighting at far too low a weight, and it always catches up with them. Just because these dolts think that a few extra inches in height and reach gives them a massive advantage! The Bradley Skeete type. So weight drained there is no snap in their punches and they look like they are fighting through a fog. He gets ironed out by mid rounds in my view.
Just watched the fight and I'm pretty sure the national anthem lasted longer than the fight. I knew Mcdonnell was shyte but that was embarrassing.
Anyone slightly suspicious of the Japanese guy. I m always suspicious when its looks too good to be true. McDonnell's a world champion. Been around a bit. Much bigger man. Put on a load of weight overnight. The much smaller Japanese man just walks right through him with ease. I totally get that people get caught with big shots in boxing. But when their hurting people without actually putting much on their punches there's got to be some suspicion there. Its not like the guy was putting his whole body weight into the punches.
It's very disappointing from a Brit and MCD's fans point of view. As a champ he didn't put much of a resistant. I know he is taking the punches and I'm not from Inoue, still to fold without much of a fight is pretty bad.
