No Hughie Fury?

 

Obviously you are a fan of the big boys. That's cool. With the exception of Joshua vs Wilder, the rest just got me mildly interested.
Bring me the bantam tourney over this.

 

I realise Hughie might not be your cup of tea stylistically but I still think he is a top 20 heavy right now and still has real potential. Another couple of surprising omissions in the latter half of the list too I thought.

I know you don't like Usyk's chances against AJ but how do you expect he and Gassiev to fare in general once they migrate north?

Glad to see no sign of the name Bellew, he has no business at the weight.

 

Like it or not uysk is probably the guy to beat aj/deontay

No one has the size and upper body movement like him....his lack of actual ko power is his big problem though

Uysk hasn't lost a fight pro/amateur since the semi-finals of the 2009 world amateurs

 

Personally I'm very impressed with Usyk (also Gassiev is awesome) to the point that other than Joshua and Tyson Fury I can see him finding a path to victory against any other current HW. Ortiz and Wilder are both very dangerous opponents but if he can add weight whilst retaining his agility and reflexes I like his chances against Parker, Povetkin and Whyte et al.

Hughie definitely needs to incorporate more aggression going forward. His defence is top notch and his feet are great but he needs to be far more offensive and commit to inflicting damage on his opponent. Still young though and I have faith he can make some adjustments

Also, why do you rank Whyte over Parker? I like Dillian but I think Joe is a step above in all-round ability.

 

That is pleasing to hear, I hope you are proved right and Whyte can solidify himself as a contender. If it actually happens anytime soon how do you see Wilder/Whyte going? (last question I promise)

It's always hard to judge how good an era is at the time, sometimes fighters go onto prove themselves better than they were or worse.

Currently based of what we know I think it's a pretty decent division, I don't think it's as stacked as the 70's and 90's era but it isn't as weak as the previous era.

Povetkin at his best would be a top heavyweight in any era. Now he's a little past his best though.

Tyson Fury at his best beat Wlad, his size and movement would make him a handful in any era. If he could keep it together long enough would likely be a title holder in any era.

Ortiz maybe an old man but he's still a dangerous one, I don't think he's as good as many think he is. He has some glaring flaws even during his prime. A good mover or a durable fighter who can out work him will always give him trouble. Would be a danger man in any era but his flaws would likely see him always fall short against the top guys.

Wilder for all his flaws is dangerous. His size and power makes him a wild card in the division, but even after he beat Ortiz he still has much to prove. He barely scraped passed Ortiz, I would compare him to someone like Tua, crazy power but can be out boxed and made to look bad due to his lack of boxing skills. He'd always be dangerous in any era with that power but not sure he has what it takes to rise to the top in the tougher era's.

Joshua, the hype so far has been real, but hype machines tend to get derailed eventually. I could see him being competitive in any era but I'm not sure he will reach the level of some great like Lewis, Ali, Holmes etc.

Parker and Whyte are decent heavyweights but I couldn't see them doing much in the better era's.

 

You have no Hughie Fury but you have Trey Morrison, BWAHAHAHA

 

1 to 5 are top quality the rest are B/C level at best, this era is no better than the last. Miller, Whyte, Breazeale, etc still have some developing to do and as for Whyte hes getting spanked in his next fight whether its against Pulev or Ortiz.

Then he can go back to British level where he belongs.
