Just a view of who I consider will be the main guys at HW in my ranking now. 1. Anthony Joshua 2. Tyson Fury 3.Deontay Wilder 4. Luis Ortiz 5. Alexander Povetkin 6. Dillian Whyte 7. Joe Parker 8. Dominic Breazeale 9. Joe Joyce 10. Jarrell Miller 11. Kubrat Pulev 12. Vlad Sirenko 13. Nathan Gorman 14. Dan Dubois 15. Filip Hrgovic 16. Trey Morrison 17. Darmani Rock 18. George Arias 19. Izu Ugonoh 20. Junior Fa / Efe Ajagba Division isn't stacked???? All these matches would be insanely entertaining and we will see many of them pair off at some point.I I know I'm missing a few eastern European guys do I limited the guys that I think will prove to be the best.
I actually forgot Tyson...I'll add him......brain freeze.... Hughie? No Not so sure he makes an impact..I need to see more. Guys like Hughie, Takam, Charles Martin, Ruann Visser , Nick Webb Etc...need to show me more where they're currently at.
Obviously you are a fan of the big boys. That's cool. With the exception of Joshua vs Wilder, the rest just got me mildly interested. Bring me the bantam tourney over this.
I realise Hughie might not be your cup of tea stylistically but I still think he is a top 20 heavy right now and still has real potential. Another couple of surprising omissions in the latter half of the list too I thought. I know you don't like Usyk's chances against AJ but how do you expect he and Gassiev to fare in general once they migrate north? Glad to see no sign of the name Bellew, he has no business at the weight.
Usyk has not fought any pro HW bout against seasoned HW's. When he fought Joyce he wasn't even on the GB squad and Usyk was an Olympic champion. Unless he actually defeats anyone on that list he has no business there...He squeezed by his last fight and so on.... Gassiev enjoys a real strength advantage but he won't have that as much at HW so for the same reasons I can't predict how he fares.. I think Hughie will struggle against come forward big punchers , there's a lot of them...There's reason why Peter doesn't want Joyce these guys are severely limited by Hughie himself. He's going to have to show more.
Like it or not uysk is probably the guy to beat aj/deontay No one has the size and upper body movement like him....his lack of actual ko power is his big problem though Uysk hasn't lost a fight pro/amateur since the semi-finals of the 2009 world amateurs
Personally I'm very impressed with Usyk (also Gassiev is awesome) to the point that other than Joshua and Tyson Fury I can see him finding a path to victory against any other current HW. Ortiz and Wilder are both very dangerous opponents but if he can add weight whilst retaining his agility and reflexes I like his chances against Parker, Povetkin and Whyte et al. Hughie definitely needs to incorporate more aggression going forward. His defence is top notch and his feet are great but he needs to be far more offensive and commit to inflicting damage on his opponent. Still young though and I have faith he can make some adjustments Also, why do you rank Whyte over Parker? I like Dillian but I think Joe is a step above in all-round ability.
I think Whyte is more skilled then Parker , his work with Nigel Benn is showing what I want to see just on the vid clips. Whyte is going to prove very difficult to defeat , he's the guy with just minor tweaks fixed he will look like an entire different fighter. Whyte could also have the best body punching! There's no fights to suggest Usyk does well in HW based on his CW fights....I see him struggling and he can be hit by basic jabs...the ones at HW will be longer and stronger. I really don't see him having much impact at HW. If he defeats anyone on this list I will add him.
That is pleasing to hear, I hope you are proved right and Whyte can solidify himself as a contender. If it actually happens anytime soon how do you see Wilder/Whyte going? (last question I promise)
Wilder would catch him late...I see it similar to Ortiz fight without the knock down. I think he doesn't hurt Wilder but lands on him more. Style wise I think it's a harder fight for Wilder bc of the high volume Whyte throws.... I think Whyte could be at Ortiz level in a year, he's highly underated. If he doesn't fight Joshua look for him to go on more wins..... Of course White possesses effective body punching which is key against Wilder which oddly no one used effectively or enough so far. So this could be a swing fight depending when it if they fight.S Whyte is open for an over hand right which why I have to assume Wider lands it, I think Whyte wins every round prior to it.
It's always hard to judge how good an era is at the time, sometimes fighters go onto prove themselves better than they were or worse. Currently based of what we know I think it's a pretty decent division, I don't think it's as stacked as the 70's and 90's era but it isn't as weak as the previous era. Povetkin at his best would be a top heavyweight in any era. Now he's a little past his best though. Tyson Fury at his best beat Wlad, his size and movement would make him a handful in any era. If he could keep it together long enough would likely be a title holder in any era. Ortiz maybe an old man but he's still a dangerous one, I don't think he's as good as many think he is. He has some glaring flaws even during his prime. A good mover or a durable fighter who can out work him will always give him trouble. Would be a danger man in any era but his flaws would likely see him always fall short against the top guys. Wilder for all his flaws is dangerous. His size and power makes him a wild card in the division, but even after he beat Ortiz he still has much to prove. He barely scraped passed Ortiz, I would compare him to someone like Tua, crazy power but can be out boxed and made to look bad due to his lack of boxing skills. He'd always be dangerous in any era with that power but not sure he has what it takes to rise to the top in the tougher era's. Joshua, the hype so far has been real, but hype machines tend to get derailed eventually. I could see him being competitive in any era but I'm not sure he will reach the level of some great like Lewis, Ali, Holmes etc. Parker and Whyte are decent heavyweights but I couldn't see them doing much in the better era's.
1 to 5 are top quality the rest are B/C level at best, this era is no better than the last. Miller, Whyte, Breazeale, etc still have some developing to do and as for Whyte hes getting spanked in his next fight whether its against Pulev or Ortiz. Then he can go back to British level where he belongs.
