When I watch Hagler, his best punch was likely his right hook, but it wasn't game changer. How hard did Hagler hit? Take the poll. Comments are welcome. I'd pick 7.5 if there was such an option, but to avoid the Hagler fans crying foul I'll say 8.
I dont agree with your descriptions. I dont know who Glolovkin is but Golovkin is not a 10. He's not on the level of a Fitzsimmons or a Ketchel. And unless youre only talking about lineal champions, there are way more than five middleweights at the top of the punching power scale. Being a harder hitter than 3/4 of middleweight champions does not accurately gauge overall punching power, championships were not solely determined on punching power. That being said, I voted a 7 because Hagler had the speed, timing and skill to land great knockout shots yet he still needed a variety of punches to put reputable opponents down. Not a featherfist for sure but not exactly a lights out kind of guy.
Minter said that all of Hagler's punches hurt. He just didn't load up on them much. When he did his power was devastating, his finishing punches were deadly.
Hagler dismantle his opponent's like a surgeon and though his punchers were not explosive they were sharp and laser accurate. This is shown by then nasty cuts Hagler inflicted on his opponents. https://www.si.com/vault/1981/10/12/826013/one-goring-one-boring
Hagler wasn't a devastating puncher, but he was a hard combination puncher that could land hard ACCURATE punches pretty much at will. From orthodox and esp southpaw he was deadly. Like most great fighters it was his all around game that made him great.
Watching Hagler hit guys my impression was he was extremely strong and had hard hands...not a spark out type puncher like the great KO punchers Ketchel, Jackson, Graziano, McClellan, Benn he was a notch below that type but the type of puncher that hurt you with his consistency and constant punishment...he was the type of puncher that just beat the fight out of you.
he has a switch him in which kept coming on more and more and once guys were starting to get beaten up he just kept coming. Physically strong you are right and this is why he took such a good punch. His body was so balanced from his head to toe. Solid.
Well Unforgiven, I think we can all make up our own minds. So I ask you to keep in mind that Fitz used lighter gloves and read the below testimonials to GGG's power. Let's see what some cruisers and heavies had to say who shared the same ring with him. You can let me know if you change perspective. - Afolabi Afolabi said to Sky Ringside ;I think it's going to be a knockout. The guy [Golovkin] hits incredibly hard. I've been in the ring with heavyweights, cruiserweights, light heavyweights, and I get in the ring with this kid and every time he hits me, I say whoa!'' - Ryan Coyne (former CW now LHW) ''He's a f__king beast,; said Coyne, a 20-0 cruiserweight prospect who has recently dropped down to light heavyweight. He's been running guys out of here. Nobody under 175 pounds will spar with him.'' I've sparred with heavyweights who can punch, including Mariusz Wach and Mike Perez, nobody has hit me as hard as Golovkin. His power is out of this world. ''I spent my summer up in Big Bear training with Gennady Golovkin who is emerging as the most murderous puncher in the boxing. I watched former champions, light heavies, cruisers, and even heavies get sent home.'' -David Imoesiri HW The dude can hit, I'm still getting used to it, said Imoesiri, who like Coyne, is delightfully bright and articulate. It's crazy. I sparred with [undefeated WBA heavyweight beltholder] Alexander Povetkin and he never hurt me like this guy.'' I must have done 50 rounds while in camp with Povetkin and it was three and half weeks before he hit me with something that made me hold on. With Golovkin I was ready to get out of the ring 45 seconds into our first round of sparring. He hit me with two lefts to the body in the identical spot and had me doubled over. I got through it but it’s hard to defend against 6-inch punches with that much pop. He backs me into a corner with just a jab. ''Golovkin hits like a LHW. And that's coming from someone who can take a punch'' And it seems like he does it effortlessly. 'The guy hits like a hammer. I tried everything, but it did not work. You have to give him credit because he had a good handle on the situation and it was an honor to meet him in the ring. Even though I lost every round, I wanted to fight on. [Early on] it seemed to me that I was resistant to punches, but eventually, they caught up with me. For each subsequent start, I went out with another plan, trying to surprise him, but he is really great," Proksa said. "I have never felt that type of power anywhere, not in sparring or anywhere." --Grzegorz Proksa
Did you read the testimonials? GGG a 10 for power. You cloud not name three middle weights who hit harder. Okay--maybe Fitz hit harder, but a 10 is still and 10 an there can be more than one who scores that high.
Golovkin is not 10.. He has been overrated a little in his punching power. He has a little like Hagler's way of coming on more and more and momentum overwhelms his opponents. Hagler was like that. But I think Marvin was just as big a punch and maybe more technical. Golovkin I would say is an 8 also..
Arent the guys GGG knocks out close to or above 175 pounds on fight night? I think so. There arent any middle weights fighting heavyweights these days but I do think GGG could stop a guy above 200 pounds.
