Gotta give it them, they love this fighter as the scariest man ever ( and joking apart, respect for that) but can we debate this guy ? For me he defines the word overrated. Resume ? Small badly focussed Frazier ( yes we know Frazier v Ali trilogy) Scarred Norton and then Moorer. But as much evidence of being an average fighter. Lyle/ Young / Morrison/ etc etc..his comeback deserves respect , eg, age etc , but once he beat Moorer he ducked everything big ( and black) Larry Holmes once said , the guy is a fraud, not the nice guy he pretends to be. He gets so much kudos I wonder why ? If he retired after Young and never came back where would he be ? Lennox as an example has a resume way way deeper than big Georgie , but the ass kissers have sore lips over Georgie boy , I just can't get the urge to head my lips to his butt ? Debate ?
Hey man! In his day, he was big, I mean physically. Solid muscle, much better technician than given credit for, cut the ring off very effectively. Couple guys gave him trouble, so what, u know any boxer of his era, which is the BEST era, who didn't have trouble with a couple other fighters? I know, the BEST era is just my opinion.,LOL. Lyle,Young,Morrison fights make him average? Really? Lyle was a VERY bad man, was kicking Ali's ass till he was stopped, Young beat some of the best, though rarely given credit by the judges, even if you believe the judges, you have to at least give him credit for the effort. Morrison was no bum, he was very good boxer, awesome left hook. And Foreman was in his forties! I think older guys like me who watched this 70s era unfold will always favor these guys, as did our parents eras, who scoffed at the idea Ali could beat Marciano. Its the guys you grew up watching you will favor. I don't know, but I think you guys favoring Wilder are probably younger guys. Wait till you're older and the youngsters are telling you what a bum Wilder was! lol How the knew hotshot would kill him, you will not let that go without an argument. Whatever, Foreman was a Very bad man! As were his contemporaries.
George deserved a rematch with Ali. George picked a very dangerous guy, Ron Lyle, in his FIRST comeback fight. George was number one contender while Young, Dunn, Norton, etc. got shots before him. IN my opinion, George edged Young. You think Young won because the crowd was very anti Foreman, as was the boorish announcer Howard Cosell. George beat Moorer, who beat Holyfield, who beat Bowe, who beat Holyfield, who beat Douglas, who beat Tyson. Get it? George won the lineal title. He was old by then. And yes, he avoided anyone good after that. But he stayed competitive and arguably beat another champion, Shannon Briggs, at age forty seven.
Who knows if Foreman beats Young there's a shot that Ali would retire in 1977 to avoid a Foreman rematch.
That's some serious hate you got going on. Last time you were in here much of your content was also hate based toward Foreman.
George is one of my favorite fighters, and he is an ATG heavyweight. At the same time he is a very beatable ATG fighter, there are quite a few that can pull an upset against him.
Lewis also has two losses in the prime, or close too it to two men who won't be remembered 10yrs from now . If Frazier was Focused or not, Foreman DOES have one ATG on his ledger while he was relevant (also most picked Frazier to beat Foreman) , and he did that in dominating fashion. Lewis has a way past prime Tyson on his, Tyson wasn't close to being relevant by the time he fought Lewis. In fact he lost that when he fought Holyfield yrs before. Same Holyfield gave Lewis hell, and he wasn't close to being fresh. So if Foreman is overrated so is Lewis. But your entitled to your opnion.
@GordonGarner65 : George was 40 - 0 when he met Ali, knocking 37 of his victims out brutally, destroying ATG Frazier in 2, Norton in 2 and Roman in 1. You won´t find 5 fighters in the past with comparable assaults. If you want to criticize, you have to come up with something else.
