I couldn't agree with you more Morlocks!! There was something grim, remorseless and REAL about Pedroza....I'm convinced that he would have taken prodigy Lomo to school...only if the referee didn't interfere.

Yeah, damn near every top ten fighter from the 1970s going back to the dawn of the sport fought like Lomahenko. He’d be lucky to having a win in record if he’d fought a few generations prior!

 

I know your trying to be "cute". But yes he would've been lucky to have a winning record against fighters of that era. Definitely wouldn't be undefeated by what he's showing. But I'm sure your very impressed by what he does . But he does nothing that wasn't seen weekly on the Old CBS and NBC weekend fights of the late 70's thru the 80's. He only looks so good because the competition is so average .... At best.

 

Ok. Who are some of these run-of-the-mill 70s and 80s contenders who did everything that Lomachenko does, as well as he does it? It would be one thing if you were just arguing that Lomachenko would be more severely tested against some of the more relentlessly aggressive sluggers and pressure fighters of those eras, but it's hard to take you seriously when you argue that he might not have gone .500 and that there is nothing special about his skills and execution.

I've watched a lot of the old CBS/NBC weekend fights over the past few years, and I haven't seen any reason to question whether Lomachenko would have been a standout at 126-130 then as now.

 

****ing A brother. You can't explain what you mean to someone who doesn't understand the subtle nuances of the sport. In the early 80s I often found myself defending Jimi Hendrix as the greatest rock guitarist. The young ones I argued with all thought every speed metal guitarist was great and Jimi a figment of the , imagination, because they played faster, oh FASTER! They had no understanding of the nuances of Hendrix's style. 35 years onward to today and after more experience in studying r&r, they say I ws right and they were blinded by the flash of the speed. Methinks the same here.

One of the virtues the 15 rd champs of yesteryear had was PATIENCE! They would stick to their style, , let Loma throw his pittypat bull**** and slowly break him down. He'd bring that **** at Arguello and Arguello would break him in half with body punches. I'd thumb that mother to the back of his head and bring the fight to the pit as Siri did. I tell you this, a Frazier, Chavez, Duran, McGuigan style pressure fighter pounding the body and staying on him breaks that mother****er. 10 years ago, the relentless Pacquioa runs him out of the ring. He does not hit hard enough to keep the true greats off him. 15 rd fighters break him. In a war, HE will capitulate.

 

Never had you down as a “subtle nuances” kind of guy.
