With all due respect, all I can say is you must rate Sanders a helluva lot higher than I ever did. He had speed and pop, but I always viewed him as being rather mediocre on the whole. And I don't think you could say anything that would change my mind.

Your points about southpaws and weight are duly noted, but when it comes to hypotheticals, unless otherwise expressed, I tend to assume they'd have the benefits of modern tape, modern sparring partners, etc. But even without all of that, Sanders just never impressed me beyond blitzing out an ill prepared Wlad who hadn't yet been fine-tuned by Steward.

Sanders always had iffy stamina, was never a terrific finisher, had mediocre skills where he could be outboxed, and he never ever proved the next level "edge" of mental toughness that would lead me to believe he should be favored to beat a far more proven commodity like Marciano.

COULD Sanders win? Sure! Of course he could. His blend of speed and power conceivably gives him a shot against anyone. But with his inconsistent efforts, his lack of dedication, and the fact he won just once against what were arguably the only 3 world class operators he faced - I don't like his chances against many a great from yesteryear, Rock included.

 The two Klitschkos in their prime were old and out of shape? LOL, no. If anything Sanders was. Sanders also defended his WBU title against Rahman despite having done zero roadwork and almost no sparring, and damn near stopped him. The same Rahman that put Lewis to sleep in his next fight.

There's a little difference that you are not mentioning. Wlad beat Purrity from pillar to post the entire fight and lost because he was exhausted from punching Ross so much. Sanders went toe-to-toe with Wlad and carpet bombed him.

Opinion, I guess. Mine is different. Slugging with a guy that's bigger, faster, more accurate and harder hitting than you isn't a recipe for success in my book.

 No disrespect to Coetzer, who was a game, world class HW, but ... no. His idea of defence was trying to get the other guy tired from hitting him in the face too much.

Valuev wasn't faster, more accurate, or harder hitting than Sanders, which is his point I think!
    Jones was a football player.
Why wilfully distort and deliberately fail to comprehend the posters obvious intention?

Ali was a solid 6'3. Louis looks the same height here. Charles looks significantly faster than the inactive Sanders from the clips.

Get modernists c*ck out of your throat.

I guess I don't have to restate the usual old arguments about Marciano's OLD opponents, do I? ;)

Sanders had knee surgery shortly before the fight. Frankly he shouldn't have been near a ring, but (this is conjecture) I suspect that (1) he underestimated Rahman and (2) he really wanted a crack vs Lewis whom he thought he could beat.

Coetzer took a punch better than most people, to be fair.

Marciano late after coming from behind on the cards, Corrie gasses, no stamina, Rocky has unlimited stamina
