Well i am not only a foreman fan i love another guys like Ali, jake lamotta: this guy had personality and he was not intimidated at all by the mafia. Carlos Monzón: to me he is the greatest mw ever on the planet. Ray robinson: hell this guy had the complete pack,he did perfect everything James toney: what a move of the upper body ,what a chin. Evander holyfield: well i think that EVERYBODY should be fan of him... This guy had 2 balls. Smokin joe: read above Mike tyson: believe it or not i am a tyson fan... I pick foreman over him but i think that he had in his peak a good shot to beat Ali once. Floyd patterson: oh man this guy gets criminally underrated here... Patterson would kill guys like roy jones, bob foster and would beat michel spinks too, if the cruiser divison was in his time now we would be talking about one of the greatest cruisers ever. Floyd mayweather: this guy beats duran the friday an chavez the sunday.... Said enough( and yes.. I know who will get mad)
I'm afraid my list is too generic to be very interesting: Ali, Louis, Foreman, Dempsey, Robinson, Archie Moore, Jim Jeffries and Jack Johnson. I'll admit I like Jeffries in large part for what I'll call "cinematic" reasons. He just fits the role of a grizzled warrior so well that if you were to cast him in a movie it would seem a bit too cliche; cave man brow, cauliflower ear, hairy chest and chiseled physique. He just looks so much like a stereotypical boxer that he paradoxically doesn't look like a boxer so much as an actor playing one. It would be kind of cool to travel to 1909 and shake his hand and tell him I'm rooting for him. I wonder if he'd raise a suspicious eyebrow and say thanks, or think I was mocking him and kick my ass.
Salvador Sanchez - As a youth, I got into boxing a year after he died. I'd read the great tomes dedicated to him in back issues of boxing mags I'd order via snail mail, and wish I could have seen him fight. The the internet happened, and reaffirmed what I'd always assumed. He was great. More than that, though, he just had a sense of cool style and professionalism I respected. Bobby Chacon - In terms of professionalism, the polar opposite of Sanchez, but there's a tragic quality to Chacon that appeals to fans of the underdog. You wanted him to do well, and hoped for better the way you would the prodigal son. Alexis Arguello - The ring intellect, the stoic professionalism, and the juxtaposition of "nice guy in a rough business" makes me root for him. His shortcomings and bad habits outside the ring later were a disappointment.
Well, you can't start out any better than Combatesdeboxeo did here....I've been a fan of Carlos Monzon since November 1970...and I'm convinced that he was the greatest middleweight champion of all time...and that opinion won't change btw... Sugar Ray Robinson...likewise, i agree that he was indeed Mr. Perfect...the real Greatest of all time...not Ali or whatshisname. Rodrigo Valdez....his only flaw was being around at the same time as Monzon Floyd Patterson....a fighter who I esteem beyond words...and for more reasons than just his fighting abilities and accomplishments. Jimmy Young...a gifted defensive genius, my favorite heavyweight along with the previously mentioned FP. Willie Pastrano....one of the most likeable, honest, brilliant and skilled underachievers in boxing history.. Jose Mantequilla Napoles...class, skill, badass, magnificent, and brilliant, all rolled into one. Emile Griffith...one of the reasons that I'm a boxing fan today...a brilliant, unsung and underrated great. Salvador Sanchez...A supremely gifted great fightewr, so tragically taken away from us at such a young age. Gene Fullmer....he's the great tough guy champion of the 50's. Harold Johnson...the dignified, technician supreme. Kid Gavilan...the great Keed!! Oscar Bonavena....a guilt pleasure and favorite of mine. Now, I'll remember someone I've left out,..sure as the world...
All my favourite fighters are active, which is weird given where I post on the internet. Of ye olden times I like Chucho Castillo, Charley Burley, Ruben Olivares, Israel Vazquez, Juan Manuel Marquez, Stanley Ketchel, George Dixon, Sam Langford, Dick Tiger. Something like that.
James Toney Shane Mosley Gennady Golovkin Riddick Bowe Like a Mantequilla missionary it was on your advice I familiarised myself with the greatness of Napoles. Sometimes when I watch greats of the past I struggle to see what is so special, needless to say that wasn't an issue with this guy. Not just the talent and the sexy rhythmic fighting style but so, so, so much heart.
George Foreman Muhammad Ali Evander Holyfield Riddick Bowe Mike Tyson James Toney Chris Byrd Bernard Hopkins And all Ukrainian boxers that are/were world class (like Klitschko brothers, Usyk, Loma)
Dempsey Ali Robinson Duran Hearns Louis Holmes Greb Foreman Leonard Hagler Langford Burley Napoles Marquez Tiger Foster
Dempsey Walcott Frazier Holmes DURAN Saad Qwai Monzon Hagler Valdez Hearns Benn Arguello JMM MAB Erik Morales GGG Mancini Pedroza Napoles McGuigan Benton Toney Norris Inoue Ukrainian fighters because I'm interested in fighters from my ethnic group Probably 4got a few
Qawi - Love everything about this guy. Rare blend of slickness, creativity, and aggression. Intense but always seemed like he was having a good time too. C*cky but with a sense of humor. Pressure fighter with superb defensive acumen. Regularly outjabbed bigger men. Great story too: Got a second chance through boxing and made the most of it. Sweet Pea - Supreme skills, superb reflexes, and incredible creativity in the ring. A joy to watch. Great sense of humor too--some of his antics and flourishes make me laugh out loud. Lomachenko - Not quite as dazzling (or elusive) a performer as Whitaker but reminds me of a lot of the things that I love about him. Luis Collazo - Not as great a fighter and not as showy as the others on my list but still slick, skilled, and well schooled. And a very humble, likable guy (saw a cool show on him on YouTube years ago and I used to work out with a friend of his who fought out of the same gym in Brooklyn as an amateur). Honorable mention: Orlando Canizales - Poetry in motion. Pep - Same Edwin Rosario James Toney Dropped from my list: Rigondeaux
Well yall all already know joe Frazier is my number one boxing idol, but I'm also a huge fan of George foreman Sonny Liston Jerry quarry Jack dempsey Mike Tyson Evander holyfield George chuvalo Sugar ray Robinson Joe Louis Max Baer James j jeffries Rocky Marciano Floyd Patterson Floyd mayweather GGG Roy Jones Larry Holmes Earnie shavers Tommy Morrison Jimmy Braddock And last but not least jake lomatta If i really had to pick my top 3 not including Frazier tho I'd have to say Mike Tyson (for his ferocious intensity) Jack dempsey (see above) George foreman (he was practically unstoppable, couldn't be moved with the power to one shot kill a man)
Noooo, Ukrain is WEAK! (Just kidding. That's a joking reference to...well, let's see if anyone gets it.)
