There is a surviving radio recording of Johnson speaking later in life, and his accent is not as you would expect. Radio programmes that feature him as part of a fictional story line, usually portray his accent as a silky smooth southern charm. This content is protected
i'ver heard it before, so i'd not assume it personally, but JEJs portrayal is misleading, true. Bizarrely I've got this wierd recollection that I've made the same post as yours, which is truely odd, like an echof of my past... good vid, thx.
It is you who do not know your history, the racist's people of the south were primary UK decedents. That is a fact. There is a reason why most African American names sound very similar to the surnames in the UK as they were the slave masters. DUH. The quote you are referring to "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free ." is on the Statue of Liberty ( A gift from the French ) and installed in 1903. It was written by a poet named Emma Lazarus. I can teach you some history, the real question is will you learn and retain any of it? Judging by your history here, the answer to that question is no.
It'd say the fact that Stallone was a big part in Jack Johnson getting the pardon really removes any case of opportunism. He's obviously going to want to make money, but it seems like it's from the right place.
Did they not tend to put on accents back then in recordings? His speach does sound a little forced, so I'd say that's certainly a possibility. They actually stopped doing that in the UK during WWII because they realised the real regional accents would be much harder for the Germans to copy than the standard radio English, just an interesting fact.
to be fair, Mendy he always looked too slight once in the ring and not next to mini-pauli types, even as a Marciano substitute.
It's not needed, and I think it'd be far more interesting to present them more as they are. People with flaws, but there really is a bad tendancy to villianise people, like in Cinderella man. There was a very interesting documentary about the influence of Scottish culture, or a heavy romanticised version of it on the racist southerners, including a lot of the KKK. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07yjk0j I think to large extent a lot of the southerners were from Scotland, Ireland and North England. Scotland and Ireland with the potato fammine and highland clearances had a lot of people leaving.
You cannot even spell the word racist correctly.Ironic when you are a thorough going one. N.B .Lazarus was a New York Jewess whose family came from Eastern Europe.
Stallone lobbied for Johnson’s release, he’s not going to show the Johnson character warts and all after having the President Grant him a pardon. This will be a total heroic portrayal of Johnson. Which sadly will all but erase the authentic Johnson from the public’s mind. Still Stallone is being undersold as a filmmaker he actually knows his craft and will get the proper funds to make an entertaining movie.
He sounds much more like a statesman from the East coast than a black boxer from Texas. You can also hear him speak at an exhibition match he "fought" wit Joe Jeanette some time in the forties.
