Super original thread. Never considered this match up before. I think I'm gonna go with Lomachenko. You?
I think Loma is already having issues with dealing with the size mismatch at 135. Garcia at 140 might be a bridge too far. Skillwise, Loma all the way, but the 10lb weight disadvantage is a killer at the light weights. He simply doesn't have the frame for 140 imho.
I pick MG by stoppage in a absolute best down of Loma. MG is ALL WRONG for Loma, can't find a worse match up Also, this is not only be a million miles the best fighter both have fought, but Loma very first A level opponent is way too much
Lomachenko UD/ late rounds mercy stoppage. Whilst Garcia has a bigger frame their height is similar if not the same and there is only 2" difference in reach, ive sais before that I think Garcia is the better fight for Lomachenko as opposed to that of Linares, I think Garcia smokes Linares, but Linares would cause Lomachenko more problems than Mikey who is besides his power is a bit to textbook for Loma. If Loma can take Garcia's power, which I believe he will we could see a clinic by him, hes not going to be able to miss Garcia' ginormous head.
Loma likes pressure and he loves to back up his opponents. While Mikey has a killer jab and it sets up that monster right hand of his, Mikey doesn't really throw the right hand when being backed up. I think Mikey is overrated. Don´t get me wrong, he is world class, but i dont think hes elite. He doesn't do much in the ring. He backs up in straight lines and only uses the jab and left hook when doing so. His jab is nice and explosive but his left hook is mainly there to create space. On the inside Mikey is accurate and has a good shot selection. He feints a lot with his body movement but it´s in the same repetitive rhythm and he doesn't use his feints to set any of his offense up. All in all, Mikey is extremely solid in his technique but he has very little ring craft. He is the definition of perfection that you want to teach everyone and anyone who starts boxing. (Not everyone can be Floyd but everyone can be Mikey and Marquez. From a technical standpoint that is. Of course only a few become champions)
I'm in total agreement, MG is very good but I don't think he's a great. Even beating Loma, like he will/would /could doesn't change the fact he's not a truly elite fighter. B+/A- all around MG can be
Mikey is a textbook boxer with average speed and good power. Loma reads him like a Dr. Seuss books and takes him apart.
