Vitali didn't think so , which is why he swerved the rematch.

Remember that Byrd went in there on a weeks notice and without ever seeing any footage on Vitali..

It took a while for him to adjust and get into a rhythm , and while he was doing that , Vitali was still totally unable to do anything to him.

That win is as conclusive as Tyson KO1 Mike Spinks :sisi3:

I didn't find either man's performance impressive. Both have looked far better.

Great list!! In how many of these would describe the larger fighter as being a top heavyweight in his prime in peak condition?

About 24 of them. In most of those cases, the smaller guy was usually known as an ATG puncher, although there were a few featherfists with mad skills.

I see a lot of hasbeen, out of shape and rusty fighters on the losing side of the ledger... and frankly, a lot of not very good fighters... Ustinov? McBride? Fraudly? Odom?... the list goes on. It seems that the deck needs to be stacked by outside factors in most situations.

Only if you define “very good” and “prime” very narrowly, maybe. Most very-good-but-not-great heavyweights lose at least once in their primes, no?

I think another part of it is Marciano/Dempsey etc probably aren't putting 60 pounds to fight Lennox Lewis etc.

If we put the 135 Duran vs 160 Barkley it would be rather harder one would think.

Floyd vs. Canelo probably wasn't that far from 30 pounds on fight night if you want to take it there.

He was much taller than Duran, and bigger, but the size gap between the two men in that ring gets exaggerated greatly imo. Duran hadn’t been a welterweight in basically a decade. He was small for middleweight but a legitimate short 154lber at that point in his career. Barkley wasn’t some behemoth (the whole “he was 180lbs in the ring” seems like a myth that emerged well after the fact). He seems to have been pretty comfortable at 160 (weighed in a pound under for the fight) and didn’t move up for another couple years. In terms of body mass, Duran was much, much closer in size to Barkley than Marciano was to Ibeabuchi.

I think Duran would have an easier time because he'd be in shape.

I don't think he'd have the mass both in offense and shipping it.
