You might well be right. Unfortunately the division bought into the hype as much as the fans and robbed us of finding out how good or bad prime Golovkin was.

 

Has he really slipped tho? Jacobs and Alvarez were the two best guys he had fought. And it only took Golovkin 2 rounds to figure out Vanes and take him out.
I think that even at 36, Golovkin might still be at his peak.

I'd say so. He's hardly thrown a proper body shot in a long, long time. Fighters change when their body slows down, which is usually why the KO's dry up. The arsenal is as explosive but less dynamic.

 

Age is always a factor. The only people who pretend it isn't with any sincerity are ageing champions. This doesn't mean he isn't any good any more it just means that he isn't as good as before.

I do appreciate that point.

However my reason for believing Golovkin has slipped a bit is two-fold:
a) eye-test (I appreciate this varies person by person but I do trust my eyes)
b) other major players in the division saying so. Saunders, for example, says that Golovkin is an old man now and he'll beat him now, whereas he would've lost a couple of years ago. Jermall Charlo made similar comments.

 

Who did Hopkins beat?

He struggled and drew with far less quality opposition.

 

You are NOT physically 'prime' in your mid 30s! This is just simple fact. Your youth is long gone. Why people even try to argue against this is beyond me! However there are intangibles that age cannot measure. See Hopkins.. GGG is an offensive minded pressure fighter.. A stalker! They tend to age less well. Always pressing the action, etc

GGG has clearly lost a step. This is obvious. This is natural. His athleticism is waining therefore his effectiveness to impose his style will do also. It's not rocket science.. & unless he adapts his game (which is not really in a fighter's of his ilks makeup) adopts spoiling techniques etc he'll continue to slide..
