Foreman got tremendous power and a rocksolid chin, which Tyson did not face any time in his career. Yes, Foremen did neither face a Tyson character. "Anyway he likes." This is nonsense. Tyson had the advantage of applied power and chin in each of his fights. This would not happen if he had to fight Tua, Ibeabuchi, or Foremen. This is why he can not win "any way he likes". Tyson had to tag Foreman when he is open, and better hope to hurt this guy before he hurt him....
I agree with you on the premis that any heavy could beat any if he lands first etc, You say GF got tremendous power and solid chin which Tyson never faced... Ok , who did GF face that had same ? Everything is relative until you get beat you look awesome. Tyson has more of a CV of being a wrecker than GF , but significantly he had a record of finding other ways to win against title level opponents, GF didn't. Naturally GF has a chance ( early) in this peak v peak matchup but Tyson heavy favourite for me.
The unbeatable Foreman..........gets the same folklore as the little 185 pound guy who wins against anybody in fantasy matches. Foreman fought like a absolute fool in his first career, no finesse whatsoever, none, he simply overpowered his opponents because he was the "Big" guy similar to Liston but same as the Ugly Bear he got exposed when facing a genuine modern Heavy with size, speed and skill. Foreman from the Ali fight gets Ko'ed flat against prime Tyson , no ifs or buts......you cannot under any circumstances walk straight in on Tyson and trade and using your face as a defense............you have to keep him off balance with the jab, tie him up when he gets close and use upper cuts.....at lot easier said than done..............Douglas never traded except one time when he got himself almost ko'ed.............Holyfield never traded with the washed up Bodybuilder Tyson, he clinched and clinched and clinched and even when throwing the entire kitchen sink at him who had not done road work since the Spinks fight he just got a standing TKO..........Lewis did not trade with a even worse version, the Tyson impersonator and it took him 2/3 of the fight to get rid of him. Foreman " The Mummy" absolute disregard for defense will be his undoing and Tyson will finish what Lyle started, bank on it. Speed kills plus Tyson had one of the best defenses for a heavyweight......until Douglas you can count on ONE hand how often he had been hit with hard punches. Old Foreman ? LOL, is this the guy who went life and death with cannon fodder Stewart/Saverse/Schultz.....two of those Tyson waxed in one round combined......could not flatten glass cannon Morrison................. Tyson is too fast, too power full with either hand, too elusive/defensive to hit clean, too good of a chin and last but not least too strong to go mano di mano with no finesse. Frank Bruno, a ox of a man strengh wise and while not possessing the best punch technique could really crack when landed, that shot he nailed a incoming Tyson with would have laid most Heavies out, no doubt and it got barely a slight buckle reaction from Tyson.....could not do shid to a Tyson not firing on all cylinders anymore despite the endless attempts to clinch. rabbit punching and holding behind the head.....Tyson threw him around like a rag doll and put a viscious beating on him.......a beating soo bad that half a decade later he was scared beyond scared when he had to face him again
Why ? It's not based on anything GF ever did that peak Tyson couldnt have done ? And peak Tyson did things peak GF never did..see previous post in this thread.
Spot on...at last some sanity regarding Foreman , a collector's item on here ! Tyson is a massive favourite in this matchup for me. See previous posts in this thread to avoid repetition.
This is a pick em fight, a true 50/50, two bullies with devastating power, I think Tyson destroys the comeback Foreman but the young version I can't decide. What Foreman did to Frazier I think is clouding peoples judgement on how he would fare against Tyson, Frazier was a very good HW but he was inferior to Tyson in every department apart from perhaps mental toughness. George was there to be hit at all times and he never had an iron chin as we found out against Ali, if the referee enforced the rules properly and didn't allow GF to push Tyson can win this.
Why should I debate with a fundamentalistic Foreman hater? Young Foreman knocked out 42 men in 45 wins. Most early and brutally. Among them probably the most dominant single win in HW-boxing. He certainly had the style to outgun Tyson in fire-fight. There is almost no boxing fan with knowledge who would make Tyson an undeniable favourite. Its just ridiculous absurd.
He was bigger and stronger, added size in his neck, back and legs helped him take a better punch. Now I'm not saying that you can make a glass chin fighter in an iron chin fighter by making him stronger and bigger but it certainly helps to some degree. Also word is his dumb trainers made him held his weight down which certainly didn't help him chin wise in his first carrer.
Once more, GREAT POST! I love the Tyson wish and make it true revisionist posters. I'd clean their fricking clocks of coin in betting on boxing. Eeeeeaaaaasssssyyyyyyyyy money !
That was the fun part about gambling when Tyson was around. Those huge huge odds you have to give if you picked him. My guess on this forum is guys bet like fifty or a hundred bucks. To win like 20 bucks. The bigger betters---4 and 5 digit backers trying to win some $$$---jumped off that bandwagon by the first Holyfield fight. If not sooner. Guys I know sure did. Money does that to you. Because between Commander Vander and the douglas destruction, that Tyson admiration cost them a ton. Just compare the Tyson losses to the worst stock market correction in decades. A whole lot worse backing Mike.
I dont see how adding fat to your neck and getting grandpa rolls of fat will help you take punches better. Its not like he became a competitive body builder during his ten year layoff, he was preaching and eating burgers. In his biography he admits he let himself go until he was close to 300 lbs. I do agree that having stronger legs and back definitely helps. I just sont see how a ten year layoff at 40 years with no exercise or sparring will improve your chin. Lifting weights probably did improve things in some ways after he got back in shape and lost weight, but if foremans chin was say an 8/10 before i doubt it became a 10/10 solely from lifting weights and being bigger and fatter. I think foreman already addressed this when he mentioned that he had hypertension and anxiety issues when he was younger. He was always super eager to just get the fight over with and was filled with anger and haste and that sapped his stamina and made him stiff. And yes his trainers did have him cut weight and dry out because he would easily get to the 230 range if he wasnt careful with his eating. Remember that the only time he was ever stopped was in a boiling muggy outdoor environment against a skilled counter puncher who waited till he punched himself out. Its ntot like foreman was some fragile averagr jawed fighter and then suddenly became super durable. Only down 4x in 40+ fights and he got up every time.
Some fellows just make me lough. Celebrating my post against fundamentalistic bashing of fighters, but don´t bother bashing the rival by fanatic hatered within the next sentence Thought I´ve seen everything. Other extreme misanthropists even pretend to be huge fans Believing its that facile to sell posters for silly?
Good post. In general, I think added size to certain parts of his body plus not cutting his weight down helped him take a better punch. Fat and water retention definitely make you take a better punch vs being dehydrated
