What I thought was a cracking fight but hardly got any coverage. Hooker a 10 round fighter and massive underdog turned out to be a rangy and awkward customer and in my eyes did just about enough to nick it. Terry although using his head at times and ultimately paying the price showed flashes of brilliance but where does he go from here? WBSS looks the most likely route if he can get an invite.
Hooker has expressed interest about the WBSS, as he has a title I would imagine it wouldn't be a difficult decision to bring him onboard. With that likely the case I couldn't see Flanagan joining too. Terry needfs three or perhaps even four fights to get back to world level, he'll not get a shot at a title held by anyone in the WBSS, so I would suggest a low key affair at first and then see who they can aim for.
We always associate Flanagan has a dull fighter but I reckon that defeat probably boosted his popularity (in his home town) more than any of his previous wins. I know that sounds ridiculous but he was all action, all heart & proper went for it.
Must be a hammer blow for him as i doubt he will see money like the WBSS will offer anywhere else. Totally agree it was almost exciting at times and never thought i'd be saying that about a Flanagan fight. Especially when he tried to take him out towards the end.
WBSS has two spaces left. Ones kept for Taylor/Pistol winner though they could always turn it down I guess and the other will make sense if it's either Hooker or Lipinets.
He was poor and dirty. But gave everything. Does Frank make Catterall v Flanagan now that the WBO is tied up in the WBSS? Or Flanagan v Davies that I can see.
Get Flanagan in with a few top 15 fighters, get him used to the weight. I wouldn’t mind seeing him go in the WBSS now that he’s lost his 0 he would probably be more keen.
On Flanagan though, he's in a tight spot, all the top fighters are going to be in WBSS, he has no trinket to use as bait and he isn't a big draw. He's sort of in a low reward but still a risky fighter position. I dunno if he was struggling too much to make lightweight but I can't see him doing much at LWW tbh. Based on last night I think guys like Taylor and Postol eat him alive. I dunno how long is on his contract but if I were him I'd be wanting to switch over to Matchroom. Him v Crolla is still a big fight, lost some steam but would still sell well and Hearn also has Burns and Campbell there who he could fight and maybes could even make a fight with Ritson down the line or even Couple in the meantime to give him a win. I'm sure if he can't make lightweight most of those wouldn't mind jumping up if Hearn can give them a payday.
This is what happens when you face bums for 30+ fights and then face a top 10 guy in the division above Hooker lost horribly to Perez BTW who Crolla iced, one of the worst judges decisions I've ever seen
Not sure what will happen to turbo now. Iirc he was in fight deals with frank although that may have changed into a long term contract at sone point without me hearing about it. If hes still on fight deals it will be a longer way back for him imo. It was a decent fight on sat but i thought turbo switched off in patches and apart from the odd good rd and a push at the end nothing really excited me. Hooker seemed knackered a couple of times in there but terry let him off, or so it seemed. Before the fight maylett was saying that he was hitting a lot harder now hes not struggling with the weight but there was no evidence of that on sat night. Terry has lost his massive weight advantages now and although i wish him well i dont think hell pick up another belt. Hooker was nothing special and the kid came over here away from home, terry should of cleaned up on sat. Terry v ohd at some point?
He needs a ''morale building'' fight who will still give him a good test then fight someone like Ohara Davies. Personally i think he's reached his limit and i think FW should've made the Crolla fight when it was hot.
Flanagan has zero power. Sad to say but he won’t get anywhere in the division with those feather fists.
I thought this was a great fight, so close to call. If Flanagan hadn't got cut, I think it would have been a draw. I think the Split Decision was correct, but was had a feeling Hooker was going to get robbed.
