Indeed. Lampley is as bad as it gets, in that regard.

 

Lampley's not worse than Ranallo. Lampley has his issues but he's nowhere near as over the top or as annoying as Ranallo. At least with Lampley he's good at setting the stage for the event and he usually provides good commentary. Lampley isn't loud like Ranallo, listening to Ranallo feels like he's pointing a Megaphone right into your ear. Lampley's been calling fights for so long he's earned respect and I'm used to him calling fights so I don't really mind him, even when he makes mistakes or whatever.

I'll take HBO's team over Showtime's team every day of the week twice on Sunday. (Though I do like Bernstein, I can't stand Ranallo and Paulie is getting more and more annoying) Say what you want about RJJ but he has a certain charisma about him that adds to the shows and he makes it fun to watch.

 

Might be a personal thing but i cant listen to Lampley quote compubox numbers anymore. I'm done with it. I get irrationally furious when i hear him do it. Might heart rate goes up...

I'm talking about his inability to know when a punch lands cleanly.

Lampley is as bad as it gets. Either that, or he's just very good at throwing the bull, to support the house fighter.

 

I agree with you there ! Annoying as hell when he constantly quotes compubox at the start of each round when we can good and well already see the numbers on the screen.

 

I find him completely annoying and silly at times with his dumb@ss over the top metaphorical rants. Hes absolutely terrible. I wish showtime would give us a no announcer option to watch the fight.

 

I think you have a point there. Don't get me wrong, Lampley has issues for sure but he's not in your face annoying like Ranallo. I'd rather someone just be getting senile with vision issues or whatever then some guy shouting into my ear with a Megaphone.

 

I had a Big Dish back in the late 80's & early 90's picking up "wild feeds" with no formal audio for the Fights.
But sometimes you would pick up what is really said "off camera" about some of the "Hot Ring Card Girls",
et.al. LOL !!!

 

If you haven't seen it, they pulled a practical joke on Ranallo way back. Check out how CroCop and Bas Rutten set him up at about 2:40. Looked like Ranallo got the shakes:

That was a classic ^. Sadly, I think his emotional problems may have gotten worse since
his "Pride" days eight years ago.

 

Nobody disputes that. Just as Cableaddict said, he calls phantom punches. A lot. The infamous bang bang springs to mind.

 

He treats compubox like it's some kind of infallible, unquestionable, empirical piece of data.

 

And he often talks about how judges judge the fight the wrong way(judging blood, punches thrown, aggression) but he never educates the viewer on how to properly judge a fight.

 

No he is 1 of the best callers in the business
