I do agree that Tyson was in a 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' situation. With that opponent there was no way to really win. 30 second blow out: proves nothing. Carry him for 4 rounds: proves nothing. However... one thing I saw that is troubling, from a technical perspective. When Seferi tried to come forward we saw the same old Tyson: move straight back, take a shot and get tangled up. That's not a good look. But it's what he's always done when someone has come forward.
Get your head out of his ass, the fight was fixed fgs. He didn't need to carry Seferi, who himself knew he was there not to pose any danger to fury. The key moment being when Fury looks into the crowd, fully distracted and Seferi isn't throwing anything at all at a defenceless and distracted Fury Look at all the other Heavyweights who came back after a long lay off, they didn't mess around and pretend to ''carry'' their opponent. If it meant finishing their easy pickings off within a round then thats what it would have to be done. Not even Amir khan felt that he needed to ''carry'' that Greco bum, because he was in the ring to send a message. And I'm sure Frank Warren or BT wasn't pleased that he ''carried'' this Albanian bum after all the big talk how he would end Wilder and Joshua with his hands tied behind his back. The reality is his head was focused on the job for one reason or another. Finally no one got their money's worth, the backlash fury, BT and Warren are receiving shows that there was hardly anyone who felt they got value for money watching the circus. People don't pay £300 per head to go to God damn the circus.
I agree there has been an over reaction. I do not believe the fight done much to help Fury towards getting back to where he wants to. A good spar would have done as much good. I think he should have came back against someone top 30-50 in the division.
The Khan comparison is spot on. Those saying it was a lose - lose for Fury, was it for Khan? Lo Greco received stick and Hearn did for match making but after the fight all the talk was on the “big fight” Khan - Brook and not just that but “can Khan win a world title”, “Khans speed is still there”. If Fury would have blasted out Seferi you could get your bottom dollar the talk would’ve been on AJ/Wilder and maybe a little criticism for Frank for the match making. Maybe Fury himself didn’t want that talk just yet?
as i said in another thread ,time has been very to Fury since he has been banned for both Cocaine AND Peds!!.. Most people go absolute schizo when it comes to Peds usage ,just look at outcry surrounding Canelo for similar thing where as Fury has got a pass from both media and the public and at the same time become some sort of modern day Muhammed Ali in peoples eyes!! I seem to remember Fury being in fights EXACTLY like the one against Seferi, Turns up fat/out of shape. Fights someone poor/much smaller Showboats Looks ****....The Vlad fight was the exception imo and there will be more night like the one at weekend on the way
If Fury was 6'4, he'd have 2 or 3 defeats on his record by now and be heading toward journeyman status. But yes he's 6'9 and very awkward to hit. Not because of any defensive genius (don't care how slick he looks slipping pads) but down to his disproportionate long legs that take him out of range and a lean away pawing with the jab style. His time away was as kind to him as any fighter I've known, he was getting better by the week in people's minds but now he's back and memories have been jogged.
Good post as it is clear that Fury has no intention of fighting an elite fighter or winning a World Title. Money, money and more money is the aim for the easiest possible opponent that the PPV mugs will buy. Fury has seen Haye use the name of Joshua then sail into the sunset with 2 hordes of PPV loot after fighting 2 bums and bummer Bellew twice. Fury will never be anywhere near elite level again and his cashout fight will also be against Bellew after fighting 3-4 Beth Ditto bums. The PPV mugs are so thick they will come back again and again after a few minutes of scripted acting.
Fury doesn't want Joshua yet. he's had over 2 years out and by the time he fights again after Belfast - against another 'there to be beaten' fighter - it will be 3 years. At the moment his goal is to shift weight, get through training camps, get a few rounds in and, more important than anything else, be mentally prepared for his attempt to get back to the top again. What he is doing is not at odds with what other Champions have done after taking a significant time out. As for why he didn't blast Seferi out when Khan blasted Greco... Khan was, by all accounts, pissed off with Greco and wanted to embarrass him. On the contrary, Fury and Seferi were having a great time in the build up and were enjoying the moment. He, Fury, also wanted to make people laugh which, if you've followed his career, should come as no surprise to you. It's disappointing that people are entrenching themselves in as either Joshua or Fury fans when there is no need to. Fury and Joshua gave us two of the best nights in British heavyweight history and yet some people are adamant that they need to mock the achievement of 'the other guy'.
Fury went into the Klitschko fight with absolutely no chance according to most critics: armchair and professional. The reasons? Wladimir looked unstoppable and Fury had never looked like an elite fighter. Will he get back to to where he was back in November 2015? Only time will tell but the way he conducted himself or the way he fought on Saturday is not at odds with how he has conducted himself throughout his career or, for the most part, how he approached fights with opponents of similar stature since he turned professional.
How can you like Joshua and tyson fury though? Polar opposites. They box so very different, different personallys, different promoters, different interviews, different backgrounds, different approaches to life. I think it’s difficult to like Both.
I can't agree, his footwork is second to none. If you want to see a big tall heavyweight with poor defensive skills look at Wach. He isn't impenetrable in any stretch of the imagination due to his height. Sure his Fury's height give him an advantage to some degree but it doesn't allow him to out box his opponents and make them miss all night. He is very quick for a man his size not to mention unorthodox. That is why he is so hard to hit and has a good ring IQ and had a solid tactical foundation that Peter Fury instilled in him. The Fury today doesn't have the quickness of feet and of course we have to throw caution to the wind and say it is understandably ring rust and he will improve with my tune ups. However what concerns me is that he doesn't have the same mindset at all to that of the past. His apologists will say that he wanted to make people laugh. Well you don't box 2-3 rounds in order to make people laugh, you box in order to do a job on your opponent. Why did take Fury's own dad to be the one to tell him to stop messing around and not his corner, who were probably laughing with along with Fury like little schoolgirls, while he wasted every one's time clowning around with his best friend Seferi?
Do you only like one genre of film? Do you only read one type of book? I like Merlot and Shiraz, afternoon tea at The Savoy and a Gregs bread pudding with a cup of builders tea, French cuisine and Pie 'n' Mash... Life is about embracing as many different things as possible. So what if they have different styles. Do you not enjoy watching Muhammed Ali and Mike Tyson fights? And I'm not sure how who their promoters are is relevant to be honest.
But how tall was that guy who interviewed Fury at the end? He made Fury look, well not small, but normal height. Dude must be 9ft!! This content is protected
I’m sorry your missing the point totally. No I like many different genres of film, books, music, food, drink and boxers. But I have my favourites for example in film my favourite genre is drama/romantic films like the notebook or cast away. But I most certainly would never watch a film from the si-fi/horror genre as I can’t stand those films. If my wife ever persuades me to watch a si-fi film I sit through the whole film feeling like I’m wasting time watching something I don’t like. Abit like when I watch a mike tyson fight i sit there thinking about how Ali Holmes Lewis wlad bowe (anyone with a great jab basically) would jab his head off and cut/bust him up like Douglas did. And the same go’s for everything in life.
