Wilder fares little better than his compatriots who have travelled to the UK such as Kevin Johnson, Eric Molina and Prince Charles Martin. Hopefully the Wilder hype train gets derailed soon then we can discuss more competive options for AJ such as Tyson Fury or a Dillian Whyte rematch.
I’ve got this odd feeling that it’ll be Whyte who eventually beats Joshua. I think he’s vastly inferior as a boxer, but he’s just so tough and wants it so badly. I'd guess that's the aftermath of the number of high profile injuries during the 90's. Watson/Eubank and Benn/McClellan I think saw a more cautious approach from refs. 13.1 million people watched Benn/McClellan live, that was about 23% of the UK population back then. That kind of high profile tragedy leaves a legacy I guess in the approach from referees. Older posters who watched boxing in the 80's and earlier in the UK, did we have such terrible stoppages like this before the 90's? Has the US had deaths or injuries in such high profile fights where the injury or death became mainstream news?
