It seems as if every big name fighter from Canelo, Joshua, Charlo (who's not really a big name but still) loves playing the Mayweather game of these long tedious ass contract negotiations, Who's the A side B Side crap, Waiting game, I only fight twice a year etc.... This canelo fiasco that's going on between Saunders, Jacobs and ggg is just ridiculous.

    Gil must be young.

It's always been bad, but back in the day, when there were less governing bodies and fighters made a LOT less money, things weren't nearly as ridiculous as they are today.

    Very true...
Though a couple that popped to mind (AND this is only iirc, cause I'm not much of a historian compared to a lot of cats) were maybe SRLeonard vs Hagler...
    Pryor vs Leonard ( ? )

Surely there were some...but as you said, nothing like today...

No, not like this. It got gradually worse starting with Ray Leonard and his bull****. Then there was the bull**** that Bowe, Lewis, and Tyson played. Oscar De La Hoya, surprisingly little bull****. Then Floyd took the bull**** to astonishing new heights.

For many of us, "back in the day" was the 60's and 70's.

And Lewis vs Tyson took longer. Whitaker vs Chavez came late too, as I recall. Was one of them being a deva?

Still waiting on Lewis vs Bowe...

It's got worse. The fascination with the unbeaten '0' is one aggravating factor. The ever more complex and cuthroat broadcast landscape another.

Well I was thinking of ....

Foreman-Tyson never got made. Tyson-Lewis took forever to make.

People waited years for Ray Leonard to fight Tommy Hearns while Angelo Dundee let the fight “marinate”. His word, not mine.

Ali refused to rematch Foreman for years.

    Patterson avoided Liston for years.

It took Jake LaMotta 88 fights to get a middleweight title fight.

Louis never fought black contenders, and neither did Dempsey.

There’s always been ducking and avoiding.
