I know this has been said before and on numerous occasions, but the coverage of Kelly last night was awful. Kelly was fighting an area level guy with a Commonwealth title; granted it’s an impressive achievement for a 7th fight.

What was happening in the fight was irrelevant. We were constantly reminded of Kelly’s ability, that this was a stepping stone, how he is destined for great things etc irrespective of what was happening in the ring.

For what it is worth Kelly was ok at best. He was starting to walk George down even if the injury to his hand accelerated the process. However, he has got enough flaws to suggest he won’t get any further than European/fringe World class. His style is jerky, messy and to be honest will lead to horrible fights. He is easily tagged and above all else he can’t punch. Bear in mind the level he is fighting at, the guys are not budging. They won’t start falling over when he moves up in class, in fact quite the opposite.

This Matchroom nonsense needs to stop. It won’t of course but I’m starting to consider viewing without sound or not at all.

I think Kelly is an awesome talent. Taking him to the US next is a good move by Hearn and he will go down a storm there.
Most certainly one to watch as matchroom have a huge talent on their hands there.

Also why will he go down a storm?! He was on home turf last night and the audience were dead.

    Thanks for the feedback.

You might need to adjust the volume on your TV mate.

No thanks, it’s just means Bellew is louder. The arena was flat, especially as Ritson just put on a demolition show. Fine to think he is so talented, I just want to know why?

Well one of the reasons the audience was dead was because he’s a Mackem who was fighting in Newcastle.
As it is I take your point, I think his lack of power and the style he utilises will be an issue against better quality fighters.

Or just giving an honest critique of a fighter. If you don’t think Sky were trying to brainwash last night then unfortunately you are one of the people being brainwashed

Are you letting your clouded view of Matchroom/Sky affect your ability to see a talented boxer when one is in front of you?

How is taking him to the US a great move ? If he fights in the US, their would be 10 people watching him which includes his Family, Commentators and Eddie Hearn.

I think it was a poor performance by a great talent.

However going from a great talent to a great boxer isn't simple.

IMO He needs to focus on doing the basics more, in jabs, and 1-2s. He should use his reflexes, but he shouldn't use only his reflexes, I think an old school stance with a low lead and the right up is probably the way to go, switching to both hands up when appropriate and maybe occasionally a cross gaurd. Basically less trying to be Roy Jones Jr, more trying to be Mayweather or Loma.
