The current Heavyweight division, is it really that bad?

late 60s 70s early 80s were special, fighters fought and fight they did and got peanuts compared to today and fans got to watch it.
The 90s was the turning point for sky etc etc.
Now as with everything else the brainwashed still pay them in the belief that it all comes inclusive.

I unsubscribed to sky many many many years ago as i was led to believe i could watch a fight when it came on and thought it was great.

This was at a time when sky first came out.

What did it for me was when i was settling down to watch a fight and Paul Dempsey informed the rest of the idiots "Myself Included" that it was 4 minutes until encryption and after that got to channel xyz to continue watching!!!
And by the way if you havent paid you cant watch basically.

Many many people probably panic buyed because they wanted to watch...

As with everything, it is all about extracting your money from you.

Man listening to you moan on here week in week out I'd pay ppv to watch that!

 

you tube/tv is now full of videos with average plodders who first and foremost feel the need to justify why their up coming non title fight is PPV worthy, or what undercard it needs to make it PPV worthy. tragic.

 

It's pretty average really. Dillian Whyte, Tony Bellew, and Dominic Breazeale don't belong anywhere near any respectable top ten, Miller's a complete pudding and a disgrace to professional athletes everywhere, and Fury's conditioning as a top level fighter still remains to be seen. Eleven to twenty is even more average, with fat sluggards and unimpressive specimens clogging up the rankings.

Hopefully, with the moving up of Marco Huck, and the proposed move up to HW by Briedis, Gassiev and Usyk, the division will get a shot in the arm again, since all those guys take their profession seriously, and can fight.

 

These days it seems the promters want to protect their cash cow.

 

In terms of quality, it's not good. In terms of competitive match ups across the top 15, I think it's certainly quite interesting. There are some very good looking prospects too, so in 2-3 years we may have a much healthier division.

I have always said that when there is a dominant fighter people say the era is weak but when there are even money fights people think it is strong era where it is a round robin of fighters legacys being built on the results of others. I suppose and example is Ali gets beat by Frazier who loses to Foreman who Ali beats. Its competitive and you have 3 HOFers, but if say L Lewis had have been around and easily beat all 3 and dominated without struggles, I expect it would have been thought of as a weak era with 1 HOFer?

 

I think it is decent especially in the UK for so few HWs

 

Loads of top Eastern Euro heavyweights coming up - Hrgovic, Dychko, Teslenko, Kuzmin, Makhmudov, Sirenko, etc.
and of course Usyk and Gassiev will be moving up.

If you read contemporary reports of every heavyweight era, the recurring theme is that the division is always weaker than it was in the past. Either the division has been in constant decline, or there’s a bit of rose-tinted reverie going on.

The 90s heavies at the time were regularly seen as a joke. Now they are often regarded as a golden era of sorts. The truth as always probably somewhere in the middle.

The current division is fine. There isn’t overwhelming strength in depth, but it’s more interesting that it has been for 20+ years. Big punchers throughout the top 10, and there shouldn’t be major obstacles to the top guys fighting each other. Best to appreciate it for what it is, rather than compare it to some idealised notion of what the heavyweight division should be.

 

If even half of those guys turn out to be the goods, it should be an exciting decade or so to come.

Things have a way of not turning out as expected, but there’s a lot of potential out there.

 

I believe you. And I mean I literally believe you. I genuinely believe a team of masked raiders could bash your door in on fight night, drag you to the cooker and force you - balls first - into a boiling VAT of water. They are screaming "JUST GIVE US THE F*KIN TWENTY QUID! JUST PAY FOR ONE F*KIN SKY PPV!". You know there are hundreds of pounds in your wallet and a couple of grand in the bank, however you shake your head wildly and froth at the mouth while your nuts boil. No way you're letting "Eh Day" get a further 1 quid markup. No way.

It's madness but I salute your resolve.
