Spinks by decision. Might seem like blasphemy but I'm not terribly impressed with Foster.

What didn't do it for you in regards to Bob?

I'd lean narrowly toward a Foster decision.

I knew you’d like this one. I’m surprised you don’t think Spinks could angle his way around fosters jab and score points with his combinations?

That's definitely one possibility. Eddie Futch would no doubt have a flawless strategy in place but Fosters power and jab are big big equalizers. Spinks has immense power too. I just think Fosters ATG jab is the difference. Spinks won't be able to throw caution to the wind because Foster is one of the greatest P4P hitters ever.

He tended to underutilize his height, never really beat a true top-flight LHW ( as much as I love Tiger), and seems to get more credit than the eye test should warrant. He's good, certainly, but he's no Spinks, who might be one of the biggest stylistic nightmares a light-heavy could face. He was both awkward and unconventional AND multifaceted.

Probably peak Foster LtHvy performance was when Bob was really bissed off pre-fight, and went out and destroyed 6'-3" Vicente Rondon in 2 rounds in a Title unification fight back in 1972. Rondon was out cold.

1972-04-07 : Bob Foster 175 lbs beat Vicente Rondon 175 lbs by TKO at 2:55 in round 2 of 15
    • Location: Convention Center, Miami Beach, Florida, USA
    • Referee: Cy Gottfried
    • WBC & WBA Light Heavyweight Titles
    • Time: 2:55
    • Weights: both 175
Rondon was knocked down twice in the 2nd round.

I'm trying to picture how anyone at 175 could knock out Bob Foster one sidedly. How do you see this happening? You do know who bob Foster is?

John, just want to say I’ve been on a binge this week of Michael Spinks, and I’ve come to the conclusion he was not only an ATG fighter, but a special one in history who accomplished rare feats, and I firmly believe he is underrated on P4P lists. I plan on making a long thread about Michael Spinks tomorrow to make a case for him as a top 30 P4P all time great and top 3 light heavyweight of all time. I know you’re a big fan of him. I’m starting to become a super big fan of Spinks.

I put him in here against Foster because it’s a great matchup. Foster is a monster head to head at 175lb and has the tools to offset Spinks extreme awkwardness.

If you think way back you will recall me championing Michael Spinks as a light heavyweight 10 years ago or more. I used to harp on a lot about him. He's awesome at 175, awesome. Two top 5 H2H 175'ers i reckon.
