http://www.boxingtalk.com/pag/article.php?aid=35184 After losing the Parker fight Jennings and his team asked Takam for a fight who declined too because of fighting Chisora and now they are having an opponent for August. This content is protected This looks like a potentially great fight imo. Would be a massive step up for Joyce facing a guy like Jennings in his sixth pro fight but as we know Joyce isn't wasting time right now and i think it's the right time to step up the level of opposition after completly destroying solid british/euro level fighters like Thomas or Bacurin within one or two rounds. I mean he fought four times in 2018 and only needed five rounds to stop four opponents. If the fight is gonna happen it might be a stoppage win for Joyce i think. He has too much power, Jennings was cracked by Ortiz and i think he lost his soul there, he isn't the guy who can win a war, i think because of that he wanted to face Parker who isn't as heavy handed as Joyce.
Jennings is a better boxer but as you said might not have the power to keep Joyce from swarming him. That said Jennings still might be able to catch him with something given how open Joyce can be.
Can't see Joyce going life n death with Jennings like Wlad did. And this Jennings is far better than the inexperienced and green Jennings Wlad fought. hahaha!
Good fight, id be happy about that one, will give us a better idea about Joyce one way or another. Its a big step for him in the pro ranks even if he faced and beat some real quality in the AM,s but his ambition is big and time is short if your guna start making moves this is a good start.
not sure if two and two make joyce ? tony yoko given that he is france ? not sure as to the match up joyce and jennings / risk is with jennings if he lost to a novice fighter he is a trialhorse from then on in. as to who possibly wins /joyce has to get him out of there in 6 which wont be that easy as joyce weight and size given his total rounds fought is got to be puffing hard after 5 .
But Jennings needs some big names now, he isn't that young (as Joyce is) and lost all the times he stepped up the level of opposition. If he wants to fight some bigger names in the division or even make the Top 10 then it won't be enough to fight names like Martz, Haynesworth, Muralimov or Dawejko. Considering he is already in Europe to having a training camp for the August fight and Joyce is fighting every month right now it should be more logical than Yoka for exmaple. Yoka has a tough opponent to face next weekend, a potential ten round fight, i can't see him fighting again a 10/12 round fight in August after probably fighting ten rounds vs Allen who was only stopped by Ortiz in the seventh round of a 8round fight. Joyce is making more sense imo.
I hope it's Joyce. It's a big risk for Joyce to step up vs someone like Jennings but against a non puncher like Jennings it could pay off big time. I could see him swarming Jennings and out working him for a decision or breaking him down to force a stoppage.
I'd like to get the inside scoop on Joyce's sparring sessions against some of the much higher ranked and rated guys in the division he's shared a ring with, because he's obviously been bashing them up for them to have this amount of confidence in him. The HW division is full of wooden Herman Munster clones, gangly windmilling former basketballers, and NFL rejects who took up the sport late and are lacking in the skill department, but Jennings is actually pretty skilful for a late starter and he'd be a huge step up in class for Joyce and is someone who is capable of exploiting the holes in his defence.
Jennings if he actually boxes long & smart. John David Jackson will probably give Jennings a terrible game plan like the Ortiz fight. Jennings was coming at Ortiz like a wild horse what a dumb strategy.
Jennings isn't the right fight for Joyce just yet. It's great that Joyce is willing to take on anyone but I hope they develop him properly. Three durable, carefully chosen opponents for him between now & the end of the year & then he's ready for someone like Jennings.
Yeah his game plan was just plain crazy. You don't go right at a big hitting counter puncher. Can't wait to see what their strategy will be for this one, maybe sit on the ropes and wait til Joyce punches himself out, lol.
Problem he has is they simply don't have the money to pick the right opponents to build him up at this point. I think Haye said they approached 10 guys that didn't want the fight who either ducked him or agreed and then pulled out. So they are being forced to take a risk to entice a decent name to fight him.
