Sad story.. I am glad he is still healthy and doing ok.. I don't know what to say. That car accident and owing 1.6 million really hurt him.

WOW...last I read about him was after the accidents. It talked about his debt but it also mentioned his gambling addiction.
No shame in earning an honest living though. He needs to be honest with himself from what I'm reading and give thanks to the Lord instead of continuing to turn his back on him.

He seems to be proud of being an atheist. Me personally, I don't like when people preach religion one way or another. I am more religious now than I was for some time, and as I get older it helps me deal with getting older, yet I try not to talk to people about it because that is personal same as Bobby trying to convince people or not about atheist. I don't want to think there is nothing after this life. Even if there is, I want to have hope. If that makes me included in the opiate of the masses as Marx said, so be it. But I don't want people trying to convince me of how to believe one way or another.

All religious concerns aside, this was eye-opening. I was never a fan of his, either as a fighter or a TV personality. Based on what I read here, he doesn't seem to have lost any pig-headedness or (remarkably) much of his ego, nor has he apparently lost many of his multitude of demons. For that, I feel badly. Not sure what to say about the rest of it, but hey...…..as was mentioned earlier, no shame in honest work.

Sad story, but most of his problems have been self inflicted, except for the car crash of course.

Dude was smart, but stubborn. I remember the Hamsho fight...he stubbornly fought LEFT HANDED despite his corner pleading with him to stop it. I also remember the "Prince" Charles Williams fight when he hit Williams so hard he was unconscious on his feet, but then immediately hit Williams again and it seemed to wake Williams up. Marvin Hagler was announcing the fight and he said "Yeah that happens all the time while sparring. You get hit out of it but then you get hit again and you wake up." I remember thinking to myself that I'm glad I'm not a boxer.

I always found him very unlikable, but losing all of his money due to medical bills is awful. But at least he's doing honest work. It'd be very easy for a guy like him to make money in far less honest ways.

I agree I never liked him. My friend really didn't like him, all because he mentioned that mensa stuff as though he was better than everyone else. He was a bit arrogant and he insult Roldan for quitting because of a swollen eye , and saying the week he was on the undercard of Hearns/Roldan in 1987 he would never quit like Roldan did because of a swollen eye. Then days later he quits in his corner because of a swollen eye.

Or back problems. That seemed to be his go-to excuse.

He was an excuse guy. I remember he wanted to fight Hearns and then he lost before they could make the fight. He lost to Williams, and yet he wanted to fight him after Hearns got old so he wanted a name without the skill as much.. I still think Hearns was always too good for him.. And the two champs Hearns beat Andries and Hill. beat Czyz..

Yes, I believe the Andries defeat was chalked up to a deviated septum or some related breathing problem, now that I think about it.

Yeah, I don't find it particularly germane to anything either. Odd thing to pick at.
