So much has been posted on this forum regarding Greb vs Brennan

    Thanks Mcgrain

The two met first in New York in Febuary - Greb was Brennan's total master, some papers scoring this fight a shut-out. Brennan apparantly was claiming that he was out of condition for this fight, and Greb being Greb, a re-match was granted. The Pittsburgh Post's headline for that fight: "Bill Brennan Beaten In Every Round". In spite of every concievable advantage in terms of size - height, reach and weight - Brennan was not in the fight, he was totally dominated.

The two met again 16 months before Dempsey would match Brennan for the HW title. Again, the fight was a one sided beating. The New York Times and the Washington Post both gave Greb "every single round". Frankly, it seems Brennan was not in Greb's class...but the title shot would go to Brennan.Brennan would tell journalist Paul Kennedy that "if Dempsey was fighting [Greb] instead of me, I would be on Greb" after his eventual fight with Jack.

It’s a fact that many of the name heavyweights have failed tests. Is that untrue? This is the environment isn’t it?

That is only YOUR opinion. There is nothing factual about saying that.

It’s all about the pounds with you isn’t it?

Wasn’t Evander Holyfield 49 pounds lighter than George when he beat him?

The weight differential between 1919 Dempsey and 1973 George Foreman is almost 20lb less than Evander gave away!

Dempsey was known as “Jack the giant killer”. with smaller gloves, provided you landed first and more often, giving away weight wasn’t seen as the big deal then as you want to make it.

How many have failed tests vs how many have been tested? Have they all gone positive?

Is it untrue that top heavyweights have failed tests? A simple yes or no will do.

There is no way everyone caught are the only ones doing it. All sports are awash with drug cheats.

But technically everyone is innocent until being proved guilty. Like all drivers who are caught speeding can’t be the only drivers speeding.

You don't think things have moved forward from that? Do you think multitudes of different boxers are on that level of elusiveness?

Again, do you really think multitudes of boxers are on the level of elusiveness that Lance was at?

Primo and a few others were involved in fixing around that era. Maybe they all were? Every one of them.

It’s a fair point you make here. I shall credit you with drawing comparison with my point that because people get caught speeding it does not mean they are the only ones speeding.

There certainly were some fishy results connected to a lot of fighters, Liston included, but fight fixing, staged endings to fights, are way more detectable than being illegally enhanced with something performance enhancing.

As for Carnera, well there was no smell about enough of his important fights he had to entirely discredit him in the way a failed drugs cheat can be.

It’s a known fact that fighters perform better on PED’s.

The elephant in the room here is that Foreman was a six foot three inch 225 pound black man who happened to be very good. Sound like anyone Dempsey spent 8 years avoiding like the plague?? Dempsey would have never fought Foreman.

In regards to the eliminator between Greb and Brennan mentioned here: It should be noted that this was kind of an informal eliminator. I say that because it was promoted by John Reisler whose ownership or lack there of of Dempsey was very much in question at the time and he did have a legal leg to stand on. Had he gotten Dempsey back his intention was to match him with the winner of Greb-Brennan. On the opposite side of the argument was Doc Kearns, who stated publicly on the eve of the Dempsey-Willard fight that he had a generous offer in hand for Dempsey to fight Greb in Newark provided Dempsey beat Willard and Greb beat Brennan. As was the case in every generous offer to match Dempsey and Greb Kearns feigned initial interest but as soon as the hoops had been jumped through and his demands met he became deaf to all entreaties. So make of that what you will.

    He weighed 198 vs Brennan

Dempsey was past prime but he wasn't overweight or out of shape from 1926-1927.
