How can Greb deserve a title shot when Wills wasn't given a title shot?

 

If the question is “how could Greb deserve a title shot if Wills wasnt being afforded one?” The answer is simple. If you believe the argument that given the racial climate of the 1920s a heavyweight championship match between a black man and a white would have been unpopular and unacceptable then it falls to Greb. That racial argument is completely false in my opinion as evidenced by the massive support Wills benefitted from, numerous polls he won proposing a Dempsey challenger, and multiple high dollar offers from promoters to stage the match. BUT if you can believe that argument then you have to say “if Dempsey will not defend against the most qualified and threatening BLACK contender then he must defend against his WHITE counterpart. Regardless of size Greb defeated four of Dempsey’s six title challengers before they got title shots. The other two flat out refused to fight him. Along the way Greb defeated proposed Dempsey challengers Madden, Renault, Roper, Weinert, Smith, conclusively, often numerous times. I have never seen an argument whereby any HW challenger stood out, based on their record, skills or accomplishments, above Grebs in the division during this time. So logic dictates that outside of Wills the next best challenger was Greb, regardless of size.

What in the hell are you possibly talking about? NOBODY claimed Dempsey was 198 vs Willard.

I mean the fact that Dempsey looks considerably bigger than Brennan in photos of the bout is enough evidence too. So let me get this straight, I have to prove that Dempsey was 198 even though the newspaper says so but you don't have to prove that Dempsey weighed 188 even though no sources back you up?

There's a majority of Dempsey's fights that don't list a weight. I'm sure he weighed in the 190s at least on more than those occasions.

Probably depended on the fight. Maybe he cut some more weight for added speed, maybe he bulked a little for strength. It doesn't matter anyway, Dempsey could weigh in the 190s when he wanted.

What proof of punching power/finishing power is that? No neutral corner. No proper count. Dempsey standing over Willard trying as hard as he can to get a guy out, shot like a drugged deer with no time to recouver from the shots. Dempsey even getting arm weary, not able to let the victim sleep with his "power".
